Join us at the Museum of North Vancouver (115 West Esplanade) on Thursday, October 26th for a Halloween themed Nerd Nite. Tickets include admission to the Museum’s Permanent and Feature Galleries, along with some entertainingly nerdy presentations and a costume contest!Presentations run from 7:00 pm-9:00 pm. The night includes 3 unique speakers, a short intermission, as well as a chance to win some trivia prizes. Come early, between 6:00 pm and 6:30 pm to grab a drink, socialize, and visit the museum’s galleries.S﻿peakersDr Emily Vincent- Spirits and Séances on the North Shore and BeyondDr. Emily Vincent (she/her) is a Lecturer in English Literature and a keen ghost story researcher. Originally from the UK, Emily is a Vancouver newcomer (who has even been fortunate enough to have worked at MONOVA) and has been excited to learn more about the spectral side of the North Shore since she arrived.Emily is a lifelong fan of literature about ghostly happenings and haunted houses. These interests have morphed into an academic passion with a PhD which focused on spiritualism and women’s ghost stories in the late nineteenth century. Emily has a PhD from the University of Birmingham, an MSt from the University of Oxford, and a BA from the University of Warwick, all in English Literature. Emily is currently an Adjunct Lecturer in English for Corpus Christi College at the University of British Columbia and an Honorary Fellow at Durham University. Taylor de Zilva- How to Stop Being ArachnophobicTaylor de Zilva (she/they) is an amateur undergraduate biologist who has an acute interest in botany, entomology, arachnology, and physical geography. They have been a science communicator for well over 5 years in addition to working previously in the UBC Botanical Garden and the Vancouver Aquarium. She currently works in the biodiversity research center in a spider lab that aims to understand the ecology, biogeography, and social evolution of spiders. As of now, she is currently working on a project about Amazonian beetles and how their shapes can correlate to where they may be located within a forest profile. She is highly determined to abolish the colonial roots in science to further scientific and social progress.Sabrina Pollitt – Colours that go BUMP in the night Sabrina Pollitt (Aka. Scarlet Delirium) has been a professional Costumer for Film, Burlesque and Theatre since 2014. Sabrina’s passion for Costuming has blossomed from simply trying to save money (by creating her own stage costumes) into a diverse career after graduating with distinction from Capilano University’s Costuming for Stage and Screen program. From building apocalyptic looks for The 100, to setting the dark and dreary mood for Midnight Mass all the way to helping curate/create the fire suits for Gran Turismo – Sabrina truly enjoys diving into what makes a Character truly unique within the worlds we build.
