The Community Social Planning Council has been in existence since 1936 as a non-profit, non-partisan and charitable society working with community partners across the region to develop and support initiatives that build a more vibrant, fair and sustainable region.

Join us for an affordability summit, where we'll be revealing Greater Victoria's updated living wage and the cost drivers behind it.

Join us to talk about cost drivers and policy solutions for affordability in the region. The event speakers will explore food, housing, transportation and other cost drivers and how this is impacting our economy, businesses and workers. This gathering is a convergence of impassioned stakeholders committed to advocating for a fair living wage. We invite employers and employees dedicated to this cause, policymakers including MLAs, MPPs, councillors, and their teams, as well as representatives from unions, businesses, and community organizations.Let's come together to delve into critical conversations, drive change, and collectively work towards fostering a society where a fair living wage is not just a vision but a reality. Your presence and insights are vital as we unite for a brighter, equitable future. Food and refreshments will be available.Grace Lore, MLA, will kickstart the morning, and she will be followed by Diana Gibson, the Executive Director of the Community Social Planning Council, who will deliver a presentation on the latest update regarding the Living Wage in Greater Victoria. This will be succeeded by an engaging panel discussion focused on affordability.Affordability Challenges and Solutions Panel<ul><li>Linda Geggie, Capital Region Food and Agriculture Initiatives Roundtable (CRFAIR) -What is behind the surges in food costs and how can governments do more to tackle that?</li><li>Philip MacKellar, Homes for Living - What is driving the cost of housing?</li><li>Dallas Gislason, South Island Prosperity Partnership (SIPPS) - How is the high cost of living impacting economic development in our region and what can we do to mitigate that?</li></ul>This event is part of the CSPC's Happiness and Wellbeing Lab in partnership with the United Way.The CSPC acknowledges the Songhees, Esquimalt, Tsartlip/W̱JOȽEȽP, Tseycum/WSIḴEM, Tsawout/SȾÁUTW, Pauquachin/BOḰEĆEN, T’Sou-ke, Scia’new and Pacheedaht Nations who have a historical and ongoing relationship to the land where our offices and work are based. We commit to active listening and humility in working with Indigenous Peoples.
