As an English-language cultural centre located in the historical quarter of Quebec City, the Morrin Centre strives to be a leading cultural institution of national standing, providing the Francophone and Anglophone public with rich, engaging programming in the areas of heritage interpretation, education, and the arts.  Building upon our building’s history and key institutions, our programming aims to provide historical perspective on Quebec City’s unique French-English heritage, develop enhanced educational opportunities for youth,  and act as a springboard for artistic creativity.--Le Morrin Centre est un centre culturel de langue anglaise qui fait la promotion du patrimoine de la communauté anglophone à Québec, encourage les échanges culturels et offre une grande variété d’activités, telles que des services de bibliothèque, des visites guidées, des rencontres avec des auteurs, des ateliers d’écriture et un festival d’écrivains. Son édifice de 200 ans, situé au coeur du Vieux-Québec, est géré par la Literary and Historical Society of Quebec et fait partie des lieux historiques nationaux du Canada.

These beautifully illustrated stories of natural history in nineteenth-century Canada are about the curious men and women who crossed the oceans from Europe to explore, map, draw, puzzle about, collect and exhibit nature in Canada. Informed by French, British and Indigenous naturalists, they tried to understand what they saw. What did it all mean about the origins of the world? Ces histoires magnifiquement illustrées de l&#x27;histoire naturelle du Canada au XIXe siècle parlent des hommes et des femmes curieux qui ont traversé les océans à partir de l&#x27;Europe pour explorer, cartographier, dessiner, s’étonner, collectionner et présenter la nature au Canada. Informés par les naturalistes français, britanniques et autochtones, ils ont tenté de comprendre ce qu&#x27;ils voyaient. Qu&#x27;est-ce que tout cela signifiait sur les origines du monde ?AUTHOR BIOLouisa Blair is a writer, editor and translator who was born in Quebec City, raised in the UK, and returned to live in Quebec 25 years ago. Her books in English include The Anglos: The Hidden Face of Quebec City and Iron Bars and Bookshelves: A History of the Morrin Centre. She has also translated numerous books and exhibitions about history, culture and politics in Quebec. Her translation of Robert Lepage’s play 887 (House of Anansi Press, 2019) was nominated for a Governor General’s prize. Her exhibition on natural history in Quebec, entitled Blossoms, Beetles, and Birds, is on display at the Morrin Centre.Louisa Blair est écrivaine, éditrice et traductrice. Née à Québec, grandie au Royaume-Uni, elle est retournée vivre au Québec il y a 25 ans. Ses livres comprennent Les Anglos : La face cachée de Québec et Étagères et barreaux de fer : Une histoire du Morrin Centre. Elle a également traduit de nombreux livres et expositions sur l&#x27;histoire, la culture et la politique au Québec. Sa traduction de 887 de Robert Lepage (House of Anansi Press, 2019) a reçu une nomination pour le prix du Gouverneur général.
