Saving the Bur Oak of Harbord Village

The objective of Lost River Walks is to encourage understanding of the city as a part of nature rather than apart from it, and to appreciate and cherish our  heritage. Lost River Walks aims to create an appreciation of the city’s  intimate connection to its water systems by tracing the courses of forgotten  streams, by learning about our natural and built heritage and by sharing this  information with others.

<h3><strong><strong>Sunday November 26, 2 PM to 4 PM</strong></strong></h3><p><br></p><h3><strong><strong>There is a beautiful and ancient (approx 300 years) bur oak in a laneway near Brunswick and College.</strong></strong></h3><h3><strong><strong> It is a remnant from the ancient Pine Oak forests and Oak Savannas that once grew in the neighbourhood, and it is fighting for its life. We will visit the oak and hear from community members about efforts to save the tree, then head out to find Russell Creek and explore local urban forest and laneway ecosystems</strong></strong></h3><h3><br></h3><h3><strong><strong>Along the way, you'll hear about the historical ecosystems of the neighbourhood, the demise of the</strong></strong><strong><strong> </strong></strong><strong><strong>creeks and the forests, and the ways that people are beginning to "Bring Nature</strong></strong><strong><strong> </strong></strong><strong><strong>Home“ in</strong></strong><strong><strong> </strong></strong><strong><strong>this urban neighbourhood... that has the least amount of public green space in the</strong></strong><strong><strong> </strong></strong><strong><strong>city.
