The grade range for these workshops will vary based on the content presented. Not sure if coding is for you? This workshop will introduce students to coding concepts through creating pictures and shapes on a virtual canvas using the Python turtle library. It is a fun and interactive way to learn programming for beginners. This workshop will use <a href="https://workspace.google.com/marketplace/app/colaboratory/1014160490159" title="https://workspace.google.com/marketplace/app/colaboratory/1014160490159" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Google Colaboratory</a>. Don’t forget to review the <a href="https://sciencealive.ca/turtle-graphics-basics" title="https://sciencealive.ca/turtle-graphics-basics" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">workshop overview and requirements</a> before registering! Please note that this workshop is cross-promoted as a pre-hackathon workshop to <a href="https://sciencealive.ca/hack-the-future" title="https://sciencealive.ca/hack-the-future" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Hack the Future</a> participants.</p><p><br></p><h4>Summary of Workshop Details</h4><p>Date: Feb 3, 2024 (Sat)</p><p>Time: 10 am-12 pm</p><p>Grade: 8-12</p><p>Location: Virtual via Zoom. The meeting link will be opened 30 minutes before the workshop starts for students to test their setup (e.g. is your audio working?).</p><p><br></p><h4>Workshop Requirements</h4><ul><li>Internet access</li><li>Laptop/desktop computer</li><li>Google account with <a href="https://workspace.google.com/marketplace/app/colaboratory/1014160490159" title="https://workspace.google.com/marketplace/app/colaboratory/1014160490159" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Google Colaboratory</a> installed</li></ul><p><br></p><h4>Additional Notes</h4><ul><li>A confirmation email with the Zoom link will be sent to students by Jan 30, 2024 (Tuesday) at 5:00 pm and a reminder will be sent by Feb 2, 2024 (Friday) at 5:00 pm.</li><li>We use the same learning materials in past workshops. If you attended a workshop with the same description, the materials presented will be the same.
