<blockquote>NOTICE: due to snowfall warning this event is now online only.</blockquote> We are in a housing crisis. Many Nova Scotians are housing insecure and face evictions, rising rents, and limited options for relocation.Hundreds of thousands of households who rely on rented homes are feeling squeezed by increasing use of fixed-term leases. This type of lease is designed for short or medium term accommodations; instead it has become a loophole for landlords to exploit long-term tenants and circumvent the limited tenant protections available in Nova Scotia, particularly the temporary cap on rent increases.This crisis is amplified by intersectional bias and white supremacy, often resulting in catastrophic consequences for the people in our communities who are already pushed to the margins.Please join us for a panel discussion that explores these pressing issues. We aim to shed light on the lack of tenant protection associated with fixed-term tenancies; the health complications, stress and social exclusion that housing insecurity brings; and the importance of viewing housing not as a commodity but as a basic human right that is intrinsic to health and safety. <h1>Who can come</h1>Anyone who cares about the housing crisis in Nova Scotia is welcome! Our mini-conference is completely free to attend. If you're joining us in person at the Halifax Central Library we'll put the coffee on for you (but we have limited seats there, so save yours soon if you're coming). And you can join online from nearly anywhere in the province, or in the world, as long as you have a reasonably reliable internet connection. <h1>About NSCSW</h1>The Nova Scotia College of Social Workers exists to serve and protect Nova Scotians by effectively regulating the profession of social work.
