PeerNetBC Winter Series: Nuts and Bolts of Facilitation

Helping people make connections is our passion. People who have strong connections to others have improved health, and communities where people are connected are healthier places to live. We provide training, information and resources for strengthening peer support groups and peer-led initiatives throughout British Columbia. We work with many diverse groups and communities including First Nations, rural, urban, multicultural, youth and online. PeerNetBC is a non-profit, registered charitable organization.Our work takes place on the unceded homelands of the Coast Salish peoples, specifically the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish) and Səl̓ílwətaʔ (Tsleil-Waututh) nations.

Participants will reflect on and discuss the skills and tools necessary for effective facilitation.

Curious about expanding your anti-oppressive and peer-based facilitation skills? Join us for 3 interactive, virtual workshops in February 2024. Whether you're a beginner or experienced, these sessions are designed to be inclusive and accessible to all. While prior experience is not necessary, participants will benefit from registering for the entire series.Our approach is grounded in intersectional and decolonial values. If you are new to PeerNetBC workshops, we recommend registering in the foundational “Planting the Seeds of Anti-Oppression” session to learn more about why we use these frameworks.For more information on our facilitators please <a href="http://peernetbc.com/our-team/" title="http://peernetbc.com/our-team/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">go here.</a>Workshop 1, "Planting the Seeds of Anti-Oppression" facilitated by Ben and Lydia:<ul><li>February 24, 10am-12:30pm. Participants will reflect on their personal relationship to power and broaden their understanding of equity and working together.</li></ul>Workshop 2, "Allyship &amp; Solidarity" facilitated by Lydia and Mari:<ul><li>February 27, 4-6:30pm. Through experiential learning and group discussions, participants will unpack the idea of “being an ally” and reframe our concept of allyship.</li></ul>Workshop 3, "Nuts and Bolts of Facilitation" facilitated by Balqees and Mari:<ul><li>February 29, 6-8:30pm. Participants will build on new and existing skills and tools necessary for effective group facilitation.</li></ul>Please note that we DO NOT record or send out our workshop sessions due to attendant confidentiality. About This Workshop: Nuts and Bolts of FacilitationBuilding from ideas introduced in the “Planting the Seeds of Anti-Oppression” and “Redefining Allyship” sessions, this 2.5 hour workshop will delve into specific skills and techniques that assist facilitators to  effectively create safer, more supportive, and productive peer-led groups. Participants will reflect on and discuss the skills and tools necessary for effective facilitation. This workshop is an introductory workshop and is open to folks with little or no facilitation experience as well as those with facilitation experience looking to brush up on their foundational skills.

Accessibility<ul><li>Sessions will be offered online using the Zoom platform. Please make sure you have the app or web-browser compatibility to use Zoom on your device.</li><li>Sessions will be 2.5 hours long with a short break. You are welcome to keep your camera on or off, however some activities might be more visual.</li><li>We encourage you to attend to your access needs (eg. eating, bathroom breaks, etc.) during the event. You are also welcome to use the chat box at any time instead of audio.</li><li>We will provide Zoom automated closed captioning.</li><li>We will provide ASL interpretation (currently February 29th workshop is confirmed and others are pending).</li></ul>For more information and /or accessibility requests, please email us at info@peernetbc.com. Registration and FeesA non-refundable $5 reservation fee is required for all registrants, per workshop, to secure your seat.  We also suggest an additional donation of $15 to $75 dollars. The reservation fee and donation covers the cost of workshop attendance as well as PNBC membership. Please identify a price that suits your financial context.No one will be turned away due to lack of funds! We want to see you there, so please don’t hesitate to reach out. Please let us know if you will need an invoice for your registration.MembershipPeerNetBC is seeking to expand our membership. To address this, membership is required in order to attend a PeerNetBC standard workshop. As a member Of PeerNetBC, you will be invited to participate in our annual general meeting (AGM) and have the opportunity to support us in other ways.  Please note that membership is renewed annually and all activities related to your membership are optional (you do not have to attend / do anything further with PeerNetBC). Member contributions are incredibly valuable to us, and we also acknowledge that membership is a construct with which we must comply within the nonprofit sector.In addition, your membership supports PeerNetBC to continue to:<ul><li>Provide capacity-building workshops and consultations to peer-led initiatives across the province</li><li>Engage with community to inform our organization’s work</li><li>Provide low-cost or free programming for multi-marginalized individuals and communities</li><li>Partner with and support grassroots groups, especially prioritizing those led by BIPOC and multi-marginalized folks</li></ul>Membership Consent Question Terms &amp; ConditionsIn order to attend any PeerNetBC workshop, event, or training we now require you to sign up as a member of PeerNetBC.
