In an increasingly polarized world, navigating conversations across deep political, belief, and value differences is challenging. Join Izzeddin and Karen in an interactive workshop where they share their experiences and provide tools for successful communication across divides. Participants will learn to identify causes of polarization, explore personal strengths and limitations, and develop skills for brave conversations through practical exercises and support.Izzaddin Hawamda, born and raised in Nablus, Palestine, now a high school teacher in Canada, is pursuing a PhD in Peace and Conflict Studies. As a co-founder of Gaser, he advocates for dialogue, diversity, and marginalized voices, contributing to initiatives like the BIPOC Advisory committee of MARL and promoting storytelling and dialogue in peacebuilding.Karen Ridd, a skilled practitioner in Conflict Resolution Studies since 1996, has received numerous accolades, including the Governor-General's Gold Medal, recognition for her human rights work in war zones, and teaching excellence awards from both national and international associations, such as the Peace and Justice Studies Association and CMU's "Kay and Lome Dick Teaching Excellence Award."
