NSCSW Lunch & Learn: Social work with groups

Bring your lunch and join us online to learn how to transform any group in the helping field into a social work group.

<p>Social groupwork develops community and co-creates change through mutual aid and purposeful activity. The primary source of change is the <em><em>group</em></em>, which holds space for multiple helping relationships; the practitioner supports the group in their pursuit of the goals they have chosen together.  </p><p>Joanne Sulman, RSW, will present an introduction to social groupwork practice, and reflect upon the history of the social work profession. She will discuss how a reclaiming of social groupwork practice can help to decolonize the profession and reclaim social work for social justice.</p><p><br></p><h3>Speaker</h3><p>Joanne Sulman MSW, RSW, is a research affiliate at the <a href="https://aging.utoronto.ca" title="https://aging.utoronto.ca" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Institute for Life Course &amp; Aging</a> at the University of Toronto, and a social groupworker who helped launch the <a href="https://www.iaswg.org" title="https://www.iaswg.org" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">International Association for Social Work with Groups</a> (IASWG) <a href="https://www.iaswg.org/mutual-aid-action-team" title="https://www.iaswg.org/mutual-aid-action-team" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Mutual Aid Action Team</a>, which seeks to bring together social groupworkers from around the world to critically reappraise and reintegrate the social work profession.</p><p><br></p><h3>Eligibility</h3><p>There are no prerequisites for this session. You'll need a device that can use <a href="https://zoom.us/test" title="https://zoom.us/test" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Zoom</a>, and a reasonably reliable internet connection. Community members enrolled in any of our partners' member organizations are eligible to purchase a partner ticket; just let us know which one you're part of when you sign up.</p><p><br></p><h3>Professional development tracking</h3><p>For members of NSCSW, participating in this event is eligible to be tracked as <strong><strong>formal professional development</strong></strong> as defined by NSCSW's guidelines for <a href="https://nscsw.org/pd" title="https://nscsw.org/pd" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">annual professional development</a>.
