Pendance is an independent film festival supported by a bevy of great sponsors and key artists in the Canadian film community. We exist to give a serious platform to innovative storytellers and to spark a new love affair with cinema among modern audiences starving for truth and meaning on the big screen. Our slogan ‘Story Over Everything’ effectively sums up our event in eight syllables.The festival was founded by composer Andjelika Javorina & director Robert Misovic in 2017. The festival has seen a rapid rise as one of the world's most tightly-curated film festivals, home to 37 Canadian premieres in 2019.

PENDANCE FILM FESTIVAL

“If I was a girl, this would never have happened. Cook F**k Kill is not as lighthearted as that title makes it seem. Described as an “absurd drama”, the film is directed by a Czech filmmaker named Mira Forney and deals with domestic abuse – about a man who loves to cook, fuck, and, well, kill. “Seen through the prism of a metaphor, the film is an intimate story about family or ‘the most aggressive group within a society, with the exception of the army and the police’, as Fornaystates.” Meaning the family, how people inside their home are abusive even if they’re nice outside.

Paired with an equally disturbing film 'Heatstroke' starring Chloe Pipes, directed by Edgar Morais Viewer Discretion is Advised. Both films contain nudity, sexuality, violence, and disturbing subject matter.
