Nova Scotia social workers are invited to explore the intersections of disability, poverty, and medical assistance in dying (MAiD)

Social work ethics

Members of the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers are required to complete annual professional development, which must include training related to social work ethics.

Join Dr. Tammy Bernasky, professor at Cape Breton University, as she provides an overview of structural and policy considerations that affect utilization of medical assistance in dying (MAiD) within disability communities.What role do poverty, housing and other social determinants of health play in decisions to seek MAiD? What can social workers do in their practice and in their advocacy to address these intersecting concerns? Let's talk. <h3>Eligibility</h3>All active, associate, retired associate, and student members of the <a href="https://nscsw.org" title="https://nscsw.org" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Nova Scotia College of Social Workers</a> are welcome to attend; our professional development programming is part of our member services funded by <a href="https://issuu.com/nscsw/docs/connection_spring2023_webfinal/42" title="https://issuu.com/nscsw/docs/connection_spring2023_webfinal/42" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">annual registration fees</a>.There are no prerequisites for this session. You'll need a device that can use <a href="https://zoom.us/test" title="https://zoom.us/test" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Zoom</a>, and a reasonably reliable internet connection. <h3>Professional development tracking</h3>For members of NSCSW, participating in this event is eligible to fulfill the annual requirement forprofessional development related to anti-discriminatory practice.
