About the Artist
Kanisha Dabreo is a multidisciplinary artist and digital designer based in the GTA. Her work explores the importance of community, inclusivity, and representation while touching on themes of beauty and self-love. As a displaced Jane and Finch resident, Kanisha served as a role model challenging limited perceptions of their future possibilities. Through the guidance of Black and equity-deserving artists and mentors, we aspire to inspire the next generation of Jane and Finch residents.

About the Project
Through the Generations responds to the diversity of the Jane and Finch community, as well as displacement due to development and transportation pressures experienced by local residents (many of whom are first, second, and third-generation immigrants). This community-engaged public art initiative centres intergenerational exchange through an Afrofuturstic lens as a means to transmit cultural traditions, stories, and beliefs to younger generations while working together to envision an equitable and vibrant future for Black folks.

Funders
Through the Generations is a City of Toronto Cultural Hotspot Signature Project. It is also produced with the support of the City of Toronto through Toronto Arts Council and funding support from the Ontario Arts Council and the Government of Ontario.
