Express yourself through a summer-themed Gelli Printing Workshop!

<ul><li>ArtMEETS: Gelli Printing</li><li>Facilitator:Taruna Singh</li><li>Saturday, July 20, 2024 |1:00PM - 4:00PM</li><li>St. Matthew's Clubhouse | 450 Broadview Avenue</li><li>Cost: $10-$40, pay what you can (PWYC)</li></ul> ABOUT THE WORKSHOPYou are invited to join facilitator Taruna Singh for her Expressions of Summer, Gelli Printing Workshop! Participants will start the workshop by making stamps and stencils from recycled cardboard boxes (corrugated/cereal). These cutouts can be flowers, the sun, beach scenes, letters, characters, shapes, or anything that represents summer. These will be used to make impressions or patterns on the gelli plate. Participants can also bring leaves, stems, or flowers to make additional impressions on the plate. Next, participants will choose 2-3 acrylic paint colors to roll onto the gelli plate, followed by arranging their stencils, stamps, shapes, and other items on the plate. After gently pressing a sheet of card stock paper onto the plate and counting to ten, they will pull their print. This process reveals vibrant monoprints that can be used for greeting cards, paper crafts like lanterns, collage material for mixed media art, or simply framed to showcase their unique expressions of summer! ABOUT THE FACILITATORTaruna is a mixed media artist creating textural art inspired by multiculturalism and natural wonder! With a rich tapestry of global experiences, Taruna’s art dives deep into themes of displacement and the essence of assimilation. After graduating from NYC Technical College with an associate degree in Art and Advertising Design, she spent two decades in graphic design before the pandemic reignited her passion for fine art.Through her unique blend of paper, photography, typography, foliage, paint, and dry media, she crafts visual narratives that explore the intricate facets of identity and belonging amidst life’s transience. Her work graces public and private collections in Canada, United States, and United Kingdom. Singh’s largest painting ‘Chakras’ has recently been acquired by St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto for their Patient and Family Learning Centre. This vibrant abstract brightens their ‘Joy’ collection by BIPOC artists, fostering positivity &amp; hope. COST &amp; REFUNDEach ArtMEETS workshop will cost $10-$40 per person to attend (on a sliding scale of Pay What You Can). Payment is to be made online at the time of registration, which will be done via Eventbrite. Payments through Eventbrite can be made with any major credit card, or through PayPal. If you are unable to pay online, we also accept cash or cheque, which is to be paid before the day of your workshop. Nobody will be denied participation due to lack of funds, but please note that there will be high demand to participate in this program, so if you require financial assistance, please reach out early! If you are not able to attend an ArtMEETS workshop that you’ve registered for, specifically if you are feeling unwell, please let us know as soon as possible and we will be happy to issue you a refund, or offer you a spot at an upcoming ArtMEETS workshop, if and where possible. You may also feel free to transfer your ticket to a friend! If you’re transferring your spot to another person, be sure to email them your ticket or hand it to them personally, and let East End Arts know in advance. DIRECTIONS &amp; PARKINGWe encourage everyone to take public transit when and where possible! Here are TTC vehicles that are near our Clubhouse:<ul><li>The closest subway station is Broadview Station. If you walk down from Broadview to our Clubhouse, it’s about a 15 minute walk.</li><li>The closest buses are the 505 Dundas, which will drop you off at Broadview Ave/Langley Ave, or the 504 King, which will drop you off at Broadview Ave/Langley Ave.</li><li>The closest streetcar is the 506 College, which will drop you off at Gerrard St. East/Broadview Ave.</li><li>There are bike rings out front to accommodate your bike if you choose to cycle to the Clubhouse.</li></ul>Please note that there is no public parking available at St. Matthew’s Clubhouse. Metered parking is available along Broadview Ave, and on the surrounding residential streets. Be sure to read the posted street signs to avoid being ticketed or towed. Also note that there are paid parking lots at Bridgepoint Hospital (down the street from us). HEALTH &amp; SAFETYParticipant &amp; staff safety are of utmost importance to East End Arts and will be a priority during the program! Please note the following:<ul><li>If you are feeling unwell, we ask that you please postpone your visit to our Clubhouse, and let us know about your absence as soon as you’re able.</li><li>Masks are not mandatory inside our Clubhouse, however we continue to operate a mask-friendly space, and we will have disposable masks available for those who would like to wear one.</li><li>We continue to ask all of our participants and visitors to practice good hand hygiene practices.</li><li>Enhanced cleaning routines remain in place in our Clubhouse.</li><li>Hand sanitizer will be available on site at all times.</li><li>We have a fully accessible, gender-neutral bathroom on site.</li></ul> WHAT TO BRINGParticipants of Taruna’s workshop may choose to bring leaves, stems, flowers, or anything summer-related to make additional impressions on their gelli print plate. Also be sure to come with a positive attitude and a readiness to get creative and have fun. You may also want to bring a water bottle (we will have tap water available as an alternative), a face mask if you need one (we will also have some on site if you need a disposable one), and your smart device so you can share images and tag us during your experience (we will reshare!)Have additional questions?
