What to expect:In this workshop, geared toward Canmore Pride’s community including our volunteers, staff, community partners, and 2SLGBTQIA+ people and allies, we will learn about creating safety for our queer and trans community. This includes combatting anti-trans hate and learning about best practices to safely combat the opposition in Alberta. We will also learn about the current political climate in relation to 2SLGGBTQIA+ issues in Alberta. Led by historian and queer advocate, Victoria Bucholtz, this workshop is intended to bring people together in advocating for our queer and trans community. Victoria Bucholtz (she/her) holds a doctorate in History and Gender Theory from the University of Calgary. She is an instructor at Mount Royal University and the University of Calgary in History and Gender Studies. Victoria is a co-founder of the Queer Education Foundation, specializing in the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, Transgender and Non-Binary Identities, as well as queer culture and politics. She is an avid mountaineer and dog mom.Following the workshop, we'll spend some time writing letters to decision-makers in the area, focusing on the importance of advocating for these issues in our community. Whether this is something that's new to you, or you're a continual advocate, there's something for everyone to learn.
