Event description

Description

Join the ABMI to discuss the future of environmental monitoring in Alberta!

The ABMI is a global leader in biodiversity monitoring. It monitors and reports on the status and trend of Alberta’s species, landcover, and human footprint across the province. To demonstrate the use of biodiversity data in environmental management and land-use decisions, the ABMI also has an active research and development program.

This event will introduce you to the activities and outcomes of some of the ABMI's capacity areas, and outline opportunities for collaboration in pursuit of integrated monitoring across the province. Topics will include land surface monitoring systems, custom reporting, and the evolution of bird and mammal monitoring. A brief recap of the results and implications of the ABMI’s recent 10-year Science and Program Review will also be presented. In addition, current ABMI collaborators will speak to their experiences working with the ABMI, including process and outcomes. Finally, we will facilitate a series of short workshop sessions to gain your valuable insights into the development of several of our projects and products. Please join us for what we hope will be an animated discussion about biodiversity monitoring in Alberta going forward!

Registration begins at 8:15 AM, with formal proceedings between 8:45 AM and 2:15 PM. Workshops will be conducted in two half-hour sessions between 2:30 and 3:30. Coffee and lunch will be served during the event.

Public parking is available near the Royal Alberta Museum. There are four parking spots for visitors with disabilities located just outside the main doors on the west side of the RAM. The museum is also located near transit and includes pedway access to the Churchill LRT station.

Please pre-register for this free event so that we can plan for catering. In addition, seating is limited for the workshops, so registration is mandatory. We welcome additional guests—please forward this invitation to others who may be interested.

Deadline for registration is Wednesday, January 23rd.
