The Accessibility Directorate of Ontario is mandated under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) to implement and enforce accessibility legislation through the following activities:Standards development and accessibility policyDevelops and implements standards for all organizations with one or more employees.Supports legislative and regulatory reviews.Public education and outreachHelps employers understand their obligations by developing and distributing information and compliance assistance resources (e.g. policy guidelines, tools and templates)Leads the EnAbling Change program, a strategic partnership program that funds key umbrella organizations to build awarenessCompliance and enforcementOversees and monitors AODA compliance and enforcementUtilizes a progressive approach to enforcement, emphasizing self-reporting and achieving complianceVisit our website for more information:ontario.ca/accessibility

<P CLASS="MsoNormal"><SPAN></SPAN>The Accessibility Directorate of Ontario will be hosting nine community forums across the province to celebrate the steps Ontario has taken on its accessibility journey. The theme of the forums is, <STRONG>“Accessibility: Honouring the Past, Showcasing the Present and Inspiring the Future.”</STRONG></P>

<P CLASS="yiv3962500483MsoNormal">In 2017, Ontario will commemorate its 150th anniversary. The forums will highlight and celebrate how communities across Ontario have come together to be more accessible and inclusive. We look forward to hearing your stories.</P>

<H3>What To Expect</H3>
<P CLASS="yiv7624159565msonormal"><SPAN><SPAN>The forums will provide a legislative update on the progress that the province is making in implementing the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and making Ontario accessible. You will also have an opportunity to network with your peers and colleagues.</SPAN></SPAN><SPAN></SPAN></P>
<P CLASS="yiv7624159565msonormal">Jim Kyte, a former National Hockey League player with a profound hearing disability, will be the keynote speaker. He is a noted motivational speaker and Dean of the School of Hospitality and Tourism at Algonquin College. Other accessibility champions will also share success stories and personal perspectives of accessibility.</P>
