Accessible Design
Event Information
Description
As designers we ask ourselves many questions when creating a new poster, flier, or graphic. Who is the audience? What is the action we want people to take when they see my final product? What emotion or goal do I want to convey with this graphic? But one we all to often forget to ask ourselves is can everybody access my graphic equally?... Things such as colour palette, font and layout can either inhibit or encourage accessibility by taking into account the variety of access needs that people have in our society.
In this workshop geared towards folks with a pre-existing understanding of software like Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign, we will be exploring the portion of design theory that interrogates accessibility in its many formats and how to apply that theory into your work.
Date: Tuesday April 4th
Time: 6-9 PM
Location: Daniels Building Room 230 (1 Spadina Crescent)

Trainer: LJ Robinson is currently an art director and graphic designer at The Public Studio. A doodling daydreamer politicized by student movements, they have worked as both an organizer and designer on promotional strategies and visual language for initiatives such as the Rainbow Reels Queer & Trans Film Festival (2011-2013), Mining Injustice Solidarity Network, Waterloo Public Interest Group (WPIRG), Free2Pee at George Brown College, York University Graduate Students’ Association, and Planned Parenthood Toronto’s Queering Sex Ed project. LJ holds a BA in English Literature from the University of Waterloo and studied Graphic Design at George Brown College, receiving an Equity Award for their design thesis project, a physical toolkit for small businesses to promote the safety of trans and gender nonconforming people accessing public bathrooms.
