Acknowledging the Sibling Experience

The Learning Disabilities Association of Wellington County (LDAWC) started in 1973 with Nene Lott, now a lifetime member, as its first president. The Association continues to be a grass roots organization which relies on volunteers to carry out its many functions.  LDAWC is a charitable, nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children, youth and adults with learning disabilities so that they can reach their full potential. Through outreach, education, advising and advocacy, the Learning Disabilities Association of Wellington County's mandate is to advance the education, employment, social development legal rights and general wellbeing of individuals with learning disabilities.

LDAWC Community Workshop Series

Each month the LDAWC offers workshops with local experts (Educators, psychologists, therapists, and other professionals) to support parents, caregivers, and youth. These workshops provide learning opportunities to understand the many aspects of LD/ADHD

ASE integrates Applied Behaviour Analysis practices (ABA), Acceptance and Commitment Training (ACT), and Mindfulness into a support system that nurtures neurodiverse and neurotypical sibling relationships and fosters the neurotypical experience. The core foundation of ASE is to promote a collective community of siblings to neurodiverse individuals, that will continue to support each other through their shared unique sibling experienceHolly will be discussing the sibling relationship between neurotypical and neurodiverse individuals. During this, she will highlight topics from the Acknowledging the Sibling Experience (ASE) curriculum. This curriculum provides strategies and techniques to support the sibling relationship, as well as support the individuality of the neurotypical sibling. In addition, I am currently expanding my education at Brock University, as a third year student in the Masters of Applied Disability Studies, specializing in Applied Behaviour Analysis program.
