Altar Making Workshop

Altar Making Workshop

2023 19 AveDidsbury, AB
Saturday, May 30  •  10 AM - 1 PM
Overview

Craft a small altar in memory of a beloved person or pet using upcycled wooden shadow boxes & embellishments.

Join us for an engaging workshop with local Death Doula, Sarah (The Prairie Empath) where you will be guided in crafting a small altar. Often called "Mourning Altars" they are made to hold the memory of a departed loved one, often featuring a photo and small items to represent them.

All art supplies are included in the workshop, along with an upcycled wooden shadow box. Participants are encouraged to bring along small copies of photos that they might like to use and any small items or materials that hold special meaning, and add the personal touch to the altar.

Art supplies that will be provided, include:

  • paint
  • fabric
  • ribbons & trim
  • beads & buttons
  • metal charms & trinkets
  • hot glue gun, glue, scissors, etc.

These small altars become lovely additions to a larger home altar or fit nicely on a shelf as stand-alone altar. They are a wonderful way to honour pets that have passed as well. Be warned... once you make one, you might want to make more!
