Apple Time!

The Deaf Crows Collective has grown from its humble beginnings as a group of d/Deaf secondary school actors from Regina Public Schools’ Thom Collegiate’s Deaf & Hard of Hearing Program.  These youth have progressed from struggling with language deprivation to becoming a troupe of players entertaining audiences locally and beyond. They are seeking to involve multiple audiences in their world that is filled with triumph, tears, laughter, and determination. They wish to achieve the 1001 small victories required for their growth and inclusion in Canadian society today. Their humble beginning in 2015 was made possible under the direction of artists in residence, Chrystene Ells and Berny Hi working in tandem with Deaf teacher, Joanne Weber and Deaf Elder, Allard Thomas.The projects undertaken by the collective are funded by Artists in Schools residencies through the Saskatchewan Arts Board and supported by Regina Public Schools. Deaf Crows Collective has performed a highly successful play Deaf Crows to sold-out audiences in Regina (2016) and Edmonton (2017).  We’ve recently completed an arts installation at the Regina’s Dunlop Art Gallery called Deaf Forest (2017).  Deaf Crows Collective has expanded into a professional theatre company in support of the burgeoning Deaf theatre scene in Canada. Deaf and hard of hearing (DHH) youth in the high school program at Regina Public Schools’ Thom Collegiate, receive credits for their participation in ASL, Drama, English, and Arts classes, and receive the required training to work as professional artists in the Deaf Crows Collective.  The Deaf Crows Collective is grateful to the school division for its support from the DHH program’s innovative approach to the development of spoken and sign language, social, emotional and employability skills. The Deaf Crows Collective reaps the benefit of this programming as it welcomes professional actors from this pool of DHH students within the Regina Public Schools program.

Apple Time is a bridge to all realms: a magical, liminal ‘third’ space, in which Deaf, Hard of Hearing, locals, newcomers, oral and signing come together to create entire new worlds. Blending puppetry and ASL poetry with traditional Deaf storytelling and ensemble theatre, Apple Time invites you on a mythical journey of immigration and migration on the Deaf high seas.
This event is accessible to all audience members regardless of language used. 
Funded by the Artist in Schools and Projects grants from the Saskatchewan Arts Board,  our new production, Apple Time performed by Deaf and Hard of Hearing youth in the Thom Collegiate program and produced by Deaf Crows Collective, is a contemporary, youth-driven vision of the future Deaf community.

Do I need to buy a ticket for my child?
To ensure we do not exceed seating capacity, we ask every person who will sit in a seat purchase a ticket. 
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
It is easiest if you bring your ticket with you, however, we will have a list of registered attendees at the door.
 Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable?
You may transfer your ticket to another person.  
 Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends?
No problem!
Why is there a suggested donation?
To help us cover the costs of our production, we have a suggested donation of $5-25/ticket.  You determine how much you would like to pay for your ticket.  If you would like to attend the performance but are unable to due to financial difficulty, please email deafcrowscollective@gmail.com
