Join us this winter for an afternoon of tranquil aquatic gardeningEscape the winter chill and immerse yourself in the serene beauty of aquatic gardening at the Allan Gardens Conservatory. This two-hour workshop, led by professional aquarist Courtney Bogle and ceramic artist Jackson Carey, offers a hands-on experience in designing and creating your own miniature planted pond ecosystem.Through expert guidance and demonstration, you’ll craft a stunning aquatic garden featuring five unique plant species—all to take home and enjoy! <h3>What’s Included:</h3><ul><li>10-inch Circular Glass Vessel: A beautiful container to build your miniature planted pond.</li><li>Tropica Aquatic Plant Soil: High-quality substrate designed to support healthy plant growth.</li><li>Locally Sourced Black Volcanic Rock: Adds structure to your pond and provides surface area for beneficial bacteria and microorganisms.</li><li>7 Unique Aquatic Plant Species:</li><li><ul><li>Utricularia Graminifolia</li><li>Micranthemum “Monte Carlo”</li><li>Eriocaulon Cinereum</li><li>Eleocharis Pusilla</li><li>Duckweed</li><li>Dwarf Water Lettuce</li><li>Salvinia Minima (All plants are locally propagated from tissue culture, ensuring they are healthy and pest-free. We’re happy to discuss the tissue culture process during the workshop.)</li></ul></li><li>Tools and Materials:</li><li><ul><li>Plant tweezers (For in workshop use only)</li><li>Plant-safe cyanoacrylate super glue (non-toxic and safe for people and plants)</li></ul></li><li>Distilled Water: Provided for filling your pond once you’re home.</li><li>Detailed Care Guide: Written instructions to ensure the long-term success of your mini pond ecosystem.</li><li>Beverages: Cold water and organic hot herbal tea for a refreshing experience.</li></ul>Just bring your excitement and enthusiasm—we’ll provide everything else! <h3>Workshop Schedule:</h3>Arrival (10:45 AM - 11:00 AM)<ul><li>A 15-minute window to arrive, settle in, and enjoy refreshments.</li></ul>Introduction (11:00 AM - 11:10 AM)<ul><li>Meet your hosts and learn about the goals and structure of the workshop.</li></ul>Hardscape Design and Decisions (11:10 AM - 11:15 AM)<ul><li>Learn the principles of hardscaping, explore design options, and create your own unique layout.</li></ul>Hardscape Gluing (11:15 AM - 11:45 AM)<ul><li>Assemble your hardscape with guidance and support.</li></ul>Adding Substrate (11:45 AM - 12:00 PM)<ul><li>Understand the benefits of aquatic soil and add it to your pond.</li></ul>Planting (12:00 PM - 12:30 PM)<ul><li>Explore the provided plant species and receive tips on planting design. Create your lush mini pond with expert assistance.</li></ul>Wrap-Up (12:30 PM - 12:45 PM)<ul><li>Pack up your pond, discuss the safe transport home and at home care of your pond. Also ask any remaining questions.</li></ul>Allan Gardens opens at 10:00 AM, we encourage you to explore the extensive glasshouses and the vibrant plants and animals that call them home, either before or after the workshop!Spaces are limited, so reserve your spot today and bring a little tranquility into your home this winter. His work combines artistry with functionality, focusing on creating specialized ceramic vessels designed to support specific plant life, including aquatic and semi-aquatic species.Courtney Bogle is a professional aquarist and horticulturist with a lifetime of expertise in cultivating and caring for aquatic and terrestrial plant life. Recently relocated to Toronto from London, England, Courtney brings a wealth of knowledge and a passion for creating thriving ecosystems, both underwater and on land.
