"Art and Beat" a multicultural outdoor art-therapy day for Self-Expression and Healing

Century Gardens

"Art and Beat" is a free multicultural outdoor art-therapy event, a day for Self-Expression and Healing.Wear comfortable clothing and be ready to have fun!The LOUD Art Society multicultural outdoor art therapy event will include a mask making workshop, drumming, and African dance. The event will take place in a natural setting at the beautiful Century Gardens in Downtown Calgary, where participants can connect with nature and find inspiration for their art. Drop-in mask-making will be the core activity, which will be an opportunity for attendees to create unique masks and explore their creativity. LAS will provide a variety of materials to allow participants to fully express themselves. We will have a designated area for mask-making where attendees can drop-in and participate at their own pace. In addition, there will be therapeutic arts practitioners on hand to provide guidance and assistance to those who need it.After mask-making, we will move to the middle activity, which is a dance workshop, run by Decidedly Jazz Danceworks. A professional dance instructor will lead participants in a fun and energetic dance session to live African music. This activity is designed to engage the body, stimulate the senses and create a sense of community. The dance session will be suitable for all skill levels, including beginners. The instructor will guide the group through the movements, and attendees will be able to let loose and enjoy themselves.Finally, our event will end with a drumming session, run by Circles of Rhythm. Drumming is an art form that has been used for centuries to bring people together and create a sense of unity. The drumming will be both instructional and participatory, and attendees will have the opportunity to play along with the drummers. This activity will allow attendees to feel connected to the beat of their own heart, to each other, to the music, and to the natural environment around them. This event will be a fun and interactive experience that promotes self-expression, cultural awareness, and community building. The art therapy, dance and drumming sessions are to act as a catalyst for improving mental health, reducing stress, and enhancing the overall well-being of the community.
