The Alumni Company of the Canadian Heritage Arts Society, owners of the Canadian College of Performing Arts, is excited to bring avenue Q to Victoria audiences.
Due to adult language and situations like full puppet nudity, Avenue Q is not suitable for all audiences. Parental discretion is advised for children under 13.
What is AVENUE Q about?
Winner of the 2004 TONY® “TRIPLE CROWN” for BEST MUSICAL, BEST SCORE and BEST BOOK
Part flesh, part felt and packed with heart, AVENUE Q is still the funniest and freshest show in New York City! This laugh-out-loud musical tells the timeless story of a bright-eyed college grad named Princeton. When he arrives in the city with big dreams and a tiny bank account, he has to move into a shabby apartment all the way out on AVENUE Q. Still, the neighbors seem nice. There, he meets Kate (the girl next door), Lucy (the slut), Rod (the Republican), Trekkie (the pervert), superintendent Gary Coleman (yes, that Gary Coleman) and other new friends! Together, they struggle to find jobs, dates, and their ever-elusive purpose in life.
Who is AVENUE Q appropriate for?
Adults love AVENUE Q, but they seem a little, er, fuzzy on whether it's appropriate for kids. We'll try to clear that up. AVENUE Q is great for teenagers because it's about real life. It may not be appropriate for young children because AVENUE Q addresses issues like sex, drinking, and surfing the web for porn. It's hard to say what exact age is right to see AVENUE Q - parents should use their discretion based on the maturity level of their children. But we promise you this - if you DO bring your teenagers to AVENUE Q, they'll think you're really cool.
What is the Alumni Company?
The Alumni Company is made up of performers, directors, choreographers and stage managers who are all graduates of the Canadian College of Performing Arts. This marks the company's 3rd season and they are thrilled to be bringing this incredible piece of theatre to the Performance Hall at CCPA. Members of our Alumni Company will also be offering free in-school mini performances with a talk back series on life in the performing arts. The Alumni Company is an initiative of the Canadian Heritage Arts Society and offers employment opportunities for emerging Canadian artists.
Avenue Q is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI.
