The Canadian Institute of Cultural Affairs (ICA Canada) has a 50 year history in developing the leadership capacity of individuals who are committed to positive social change. We do this through our Courage to Lead programming, tailored training and facilitation offered to non-profit organizations and community groups and through the development of knowledge resources.

The Grenadier Cafe

Please join Anne Fleming and Paul Overy on an interactive walk-based exploration of opportunities to experience awe through your relationship with the natural world, of which you are part. By tuning in your senses, exploring different ways of perceiving yourself in relationship with nature, and noticing your responses to new experiences, you can learn to feel awe in many ways. This is a pilot walk for ICA Canada staff, Board members, Volunteers and CTL Guides to enjoy. We welcome your insights and feedback!This free walk will take place in Toronto’s High Park on Sunday May 25, 2025, from 2pm to 3:30 pm, followed by a 30-minute facilitated discussion led by a Courage to Lead Guide. Please note that cars are not permitted in High Park on weekends, so street parking in the area is the option for drivers. Travel by TTC is recommended; the Grenadier Restaurant is roughly a 15-minute walk south of the High Park subway station.The walk will take place rain or shine, though will be cancelled in the event of extreme weather. Please dress for the weather conditions and to walk on soil paths. Long-sleeved shirts, long pants and closed-toe shoes with good traction are recommended, as are a sun hat and water.Anne and Paul look forward to sharing the experience of awe with you! Meet PaulPaul Overy has an academic background in geography, psychology and planning, among other fields, and has been a walk leader with the Toronto Field Naturalists, Lost Rivers, la Société d’histoire de Toronto and Heritage Toronto. Paul is passionate about exploring, learning and sharing stories of place: how the land, waters and living beings (including humans!) have come to evolve together. Paul is also interested in how public policies shape, enhance or harm the world in which these beings live.Paul also practices hands-on bodywork and movement re-education (the Trager Approach), which has led him to explore touch, perception, anatomy, physiology and movement analysis. These explorations have developed his curiosity about how we come to experience and know ourselves and the world we live in…a curiosity he loves to spark in others. Meet AnneWith over a decade as an art gallery guide, plus two years as local host of Street Wisdom's annual World Wide Wander, Anne Fleming enjoys co-creating experiences of beauty and awe. A skilled communicator, Anne writes, edits, and manages social media for a variety of organizations. She is active on a number non-profit boards and currently volunteers for the YMCA, Storytelling Toronto, the AGO, and the Bike Brigade. Recovering lawyer, certified fitness instructor, and amateur photographer, Anne enjoys cycling, baking, travel, and enjoying nature with her dog Percy.
