Basic Security Training Location: Surrey (Part Time, Evening 4:45 pm – 9:00 pm) Monday – Friday, Price $200 Plus GST

<h2>Basic Security Training</h2><p>Basic Security Training (BST) is a 40-hour course that adheres to the standard curriculum. Students will learn the fundamentals of private security, as well as the rights and obligations of a security professional, as well as reporting requirements and personal safety techniques.<br></p><p><strong><strong>Who should take this training?</strong></strong></p><p>People who are new to the security profession are required to take the Basic Security Training to be eligible to apply for a provincial Security Worker License. Security businesses and security workers that require licensing include:</p><ul><li>Uniformed security guards</li><li>Security alarm services, sales, monitoring and/or response</li><li>Armored car businesses</li><li>Security consultants</li><li>Locksmiths</li><li>Door staff</li><li>Bodyguards – close protection</li><li>Retail loss prevention</li><li>Closed circuit television installer</li><li>Electronic locking device installer (Access Control)</li><li>In-house security</li><li>Private investigator</li><li>Doorperson at licensed liquor establishments</li></ul><p><strong><strong>Basic Security Training focuses on providing a foundation in:</strong></strong><br></p><ul><li>Professionalism and ethics</li><li>Legal studies</li><li>Report writing</li><li>Personal safety</li></ul><h4>Final Exam</h4><p>Once students have completed their in class 40 hours course, they are eligible to take the final exam. A minimum grade of 70% must be achieved on the exam in order to receive your Certificate of Training Completion.</p><p>The exam will take place at the JIBC New Westminster campus. Please note students are required to bring their own <strong><strong>laptop</strong></strong> to the exam.</p><p>Students are required to successfully complete the assessment <strong><strong>within six (6) months</strong></strong> of finishing the theory course. Students can write the exam a maximum of <strong><strong>3 times</strong></strong> (each re-write is subject to an exam fee). If after three (3) attempts the student is not successful, they will be required to take the 40 hours in class course again.</p><h4>Replacement Certificates</h4><p>Replacement certificates are available for a fee of $38.59. Please fill out the <a href="https://www.jibc.ca/sites/default/files/2020-06/JPSD-Certificate-Replacement-Form-2020-0618.pdf" title="https://www.jibc.ca/sites/default/files/2020-06/JPSD-Certificate-Replacement-Form-2020-0618.pdf" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Certificate Replacement Form.</a></p><p>You are required to provide a photocopy of valid government-issued identification along with the Certificate Replacement Form.</p><p>Forms can be received either by mail or e-mail. If you are submitting your application by e-mail, Security Training Programs will provide the instructions on how to make the payment. If you are submitting your application by mail, you can choose to include a certified cheque or money order for $38.59 payable to the Justice Institute of British Columbia.</p><p>Replacement certificates will be provided via e-mail.</p><h4>Tuition &amp; Fees</h4><p>Participants will pay $210 to Mainland Safety training company to take 40 hours in class and the instructions are given by a JIBC approved instructor. Participants will get the workbook in the class, which has been published and written by JIBC. (There is no additional cost for workbook)</p><p>Next Step</p><p>Participant will book their exam with JIBC after completing the course and it will cost participant $ 63.15</p><h2>Details on how to book an exam are given below</h2><h4>Students must have successfully completed BST Theory (SCRT-1651) before registering for the BST Exam (SCRT-1656) to register for your BST Assessment.</h4><ol><li>1. Visit <a href="https://www.jibc.ca/myjibc" title="https://www.jibc.ca/myjibc" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">myJIBC Student Portal</a>You will need an active JIBC Student number and Password to login. To reset your password, click, Login to Self-Service.<br>If you already have an active JIBC Student Number and Password, proceed to step 2.<strong><strong>Then click Forgot Password?</strong></strong></li><li><ul><li>a. From the Forgot Password page, enter your JIBC Student Number and Email Address on file.Click Submit.</li><li>b. You will receive a message to check your email for further instructions.</li><li>c. Once you have successfully reset your password, return to <a href="https://www.jibc.ca/myjibc" title="https://www.jibc.ca/myjibc" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">myJIBC student portal</a></li></ul></li><li>2. Click Self-Service</li><li>3. Enter your JIBC Student Number and Password.</li><li><ul><li>Click Sign In.</li></ul></li><li>4. From the Self-Service home page, click Register &amp; Pay for Continuing Studies.</li><li>5. Type SCRT-1656 in the Course Code Number box.</li><li><ul><li>Click Search.</li></ul></li><li>6. On the search results page, scroll down until you find an exam with available seats. Click Select on the exam you’d like to register for.</li><li>7. If the exam is full, you will get the message in red below, “This Section is Full.”</li><li><ul><li>If the exam has available seats, there will be no message in red. Click Add Section.</li></ul></li><li>8. You will get confirmation that the exam has successfully been added to your cart.</li><li><ul><li>Click Next.</li></ul></li><li>9. Fill out the Additional Details.</li><li><ul><li>Click Submit.</li></ul></li><li>10. The Pay for Classes page will be displayed. Confirm correct exam date is listed, total of $63.15 is appearing, select Payment Methods (Visa or MasterCard).</li><li><ul><li>Click Proceed to Payment.</li></ul></li><li>11. Payment Review page displays, click Pay Now. Please pay by Visa or MasterCard. PLEASE NOTE: Visa Debit and MasterCard Debit are not accepted.</li><li>12. Enter the required payment information. Click Pay Now.</li><li><ul><li>A ‘transaction being processed’ message will be displayed.</li></ul></li><li>13. When payment has been processed, the Class/Payment Acknowledgement page will be displayed.</li><li><ul><li>A copy of this acknowledgement will also be sent to your email on file.</li></ul></li></ol><h4>Fingerprints</h4><p>After passing the exam, participants will get their fingerprints done and apply for their security worker license. The approx. cost for fingerprint varies from $80 to $95 plus GST</p><h4>How do I get my Security Worker License?</h4><p>Once you have successfully passed the BST courses and received your certificate, you will need to apply for your Security Worker License. Licensing is done through the <a href="https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/employment-business/business/security-services/security-industry-licensing" title="https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/employment-business/business/security-services/security-industry-licensing" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General, Security Programs Division.</a> JIBC is only responsible for your certification.
