No real soup will be used in the making of these patches! ADELE ᒪᐢᑿᓱᐏᐢᑵᐤ ARSENEAU was born in BC, far from her family’s traditional territories; the significance of the place and culture in which she was raised is an integral part of her story. Sustainability, community-building through mentorship, and authentic storytelling are at the heart of her practice. Whether through carving cedar, contemporary application of Métis and Plains style traditional beadwork, or painting in acrylic on hand-tanned rawhide, her work counters colonial ideals while encouraging curiosity and inviting deeper connections. Adele ᒪᐢᑿᓱᐏᐢᑵᐤ extends her gratitude to her own teachers, mentors, and the knowledge holders who have shared with her including Master Carver Xwalacktun, Tsawaysia Spukwus, and Aaron Nelson-Moody of Squamish Nation, Elizabeth Khetlo, Winnie Casimel, Lisa Shepherd, and her mother Marie Caron, among many others.
