The Vancouver Just For Laughs Film Festival – part of JFL NorthWest – will be taking over the city from February 14 to 23, 2019. Vancouver, often referred to as “Hollywood North,” is the ideal place to host the world’s most exciting comedy film festival, as it boasts a great appreciation for cinema and also attracts many film productions and stars. Programming will include exciting short and feature film screenings, premieres, in conversations, riveting industry speakers, panels and more!

1994. Forest Lake, Illinois. The suburbs. Grunge. Flannel. Gangsta Rap. Mariah Carey. Mixtapes. The music was good (mostly) and the internet didn’t exist... After the summer of 1994, the life of 15 year-old Archie Kinsler and the Chicago suburb of Forest Lake will never be the same. Desperate to gain the attention of Bernadette, a 17 year-old lifeguard and French foreign exchange student, Archie and his two best friends get their first jobs working at the local Park District. With the help of their boss, Dixon, a local lothario and suburban legend, Archie and his friends learn about love, adulthood, and all the things that books can’t teach.BERNADETTE is a throwback, 80s and 90s inspired, bittersweet coming-of-age teen comedy in the vein of Caddyshack and 16 Candles. An absurd romp that has its heart firmly planted in the shared memories of a generation, BERNADETTE is a loving wink and a nostalgic nod to all the great films that were its inspiration.NOTE: There will be a short Q&amp;A with John Psathas (director) and Sarah Shirkey (actress) after the screening, moderated by Nicole Stamp.

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR – JOHN PSATHASJohn Psathas is an award-winning director and producer based in Chicago. An unwavering fan of 80s and 90s coming-of-age films, BERNADETTE is his first feature. As the founder or Analog Productions, his work has screened internationally and includes commercials, shorts, and feature length films. Between projects, he teaches as an Associate Professor at DePaul University's School of Cinematic Arts.

SARAH SHIRKEY - ACTRESSSarah Shirkey is originally from the Detroit area where she received her BFA in Theatre from the University of Detroit Mercy. She has lived in Chicago for 12 years where she enjoys working on various theatre, commercial, and film projects. Sarah enjoys being an amateur travel agent and seeing the world, reading (shout out to book club), true crime anything (SSDGM), and being a dog mom (also a wife). If you have any information on how to start an all-female production company, she would very much enjoy speaking with you.

NICOLE STAMP - Television Host, Actor, Director, WriterNICOLE STAMP is a television host, actor, director, and writer. Stamp has been both the host and director for "Inside Between"- a Netflix aftershow for CityTV, "AllianceLive" for Alliance films, and "The SPACE" for TVOntario, which won 2 Gemini Awards among 6 nominations. She has also hosted 6 seasons of the classic academic gameshow "Reach For The Top", and interviewed A-list Hollywood talent for the Toronto International Film Festival. Stamp's acting credits include roles on "The Handmaid's Tale", "In Contempt", "The Expanse", "Odd Squad", and "Carmilla", a Canadian Screen Award-winning webseries with over 70 million views on YouTube. Stamp has also voiced characters in 20+ cartoons, including titles for Jim Henson Company, CBC, Cartoon Network, and Disney XD, and plays a major motion-capture role in the videogame "Assassin's Creed Origins". As a writer, Stamp has worked on the new Peanuts series (a collaboration between DHX, Apple and NASA), written the educational kids' series "The Incredible Adventures of EnviroGirl" for TVOntario, and her essay, "What Decent Men Can Do After #MeToo" was shared over 70 thousand times on Facebook, then commissioned by CNN where it ranked among the top articles of 2017. Stamp lives in Toronto and holds a Guinness World Record for playing dodgeball for 36 hours without sleeping- an accomplishment she does not recommend. Follow her on the Twitters @nicolestamp.
