The Peace and Reconciliation Centre at UFV is pleased to once again offer this interactive lesson. Initiated by Grand Chief Clarence “Kat” Pennier and Dr. Keith Thor Carlson, Beyond Blankets: A Stó:lō Lands Exercise offers a powerful and immersive learning experience, focusing specifically on Stó:lō culture, history, and connection to the land. Participants will journey through key moments in Stó:lō history, including life before first contact, the impact of smallpox epidemics, the fur trade and gold rush eras, colonialism in the Fraser Valley, and Stó:lō resurgence. This exercise aims to foster deep understanding, compassion, and motivation towards positive action.
