BioInnovation Scientist (BIS) Program for Young Scientists

The Society for Canadian Women in Science and Technology (SCWIST) was founded in 1981 as a not-for-profit association aimed at encouraging women into Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). SCWIST aims to support and promote the education of girls and women through programs and activities in partnership with the community.SCWIST has a spectacular record of boosting the numbers, retention and status of women in the workplace by facilitating networking, mentoring and advocating woman-friendly policies. <h2>About this event</h2><p>The adMare Academy offers a free online asynchronous program called the BioInnovation Scientist (BIS) Program for bench scientists looking to transition their careers to drug development &amp; drug commercialization.
</p><p>The BIS program was designed to complement students’ academic education and employer talent development programs. It is the only program that focuses on delivering the skills needed to innovate in laboratories.

<h1>Speaker</h1><h2><a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/edie-dullaghan-bsc-phd-95409024/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Dr. Edie Dullaghan</a>, Scientific Director, adMare Academy, adMare BioInnovations, Vancouver, BC</h2><p>As the Scientific Director of the adMare Academy, Dr. Edie Dullaghan plays a direct role in the development and advancement of scientific talent within the Canadian life sciences ecosystem. At adMare, Dr. Dullaghan supports the Academy’s programs, including The BioInnovation Scientist Program, a one-of-a-kind program for early-career scientists looking to build a drug development and commercialization career in Canada’s life sciences industry.</p><p>Previously, Dr. Dullaghan worked at CDRD – The Centre for Drug Research and Development as the Director of Target Validation, where she spent over ten years advancing made-in-Canada innovations while also mentoring the next generation of drug developers. Prior to joining CDRD, Dr. Dullaghan served as the Pathogenomics Project Leader for Inimex Pharmaceuticals Inc., developing robust animal models of human infections with a focus toward host defense peptides and small molecules. Over the course of her career, she has managed several large-scale R&amp;D programs, including leading a global collaboration with LifeArc and The Defence Science and Technology Laboratories (DSTL) in the United Kingdom using a novel approach in drug target discovery that capitalises on areas of commonality across pathogens. </p><p>Dr. Dullaghan obtained her PhD in the U.K. at the National Institute for Medical Research, studying the molecular genetics of the SOS response in Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the causative agent of TB.</p>

<h2>Moderator</h2><h2><a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/noeen-fisch24/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Dr. Noeen Malik</a>, Director of Communications &amp; Events, SCWIST; Executive Director of Public Affairs, GIANT</h2><p>Noeen Malik, PhD, is the nuclear medicine scientist (specialization: drug discovery and PET/CT imaging), business strategist (specialization: Theragnostics), a published co-author of clinical imaging book, “T<a href="https://www.steinbeis-edition.de/shop/out/pictures/media/192525_blick.pdf" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">he PET Method: Tracer Principle and Radiochemistry</a>” (Steinbeis, 2016), <a href="https://www.giant-int.org/about/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Executive Director of Public Affairs at GIANT</a> (Global Immunization Action Networking Team), California, and <a href="https://scwist.ca/about/meet-the-team/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Director of Communications &amp; Events</a> at SCWIST. In addition, she recently launched a small pharma-consultancy firm, <a href="https://www.scientudio.biz/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Scientudio</a> (Motto: Of women, By women BUT FOR ALL). Being a scientist, her duties revolve around managing bench work to preclinical evaluations to cGMP production of clinical radiopharmaceuticals to facilitate the commercialization of innovations. At SCWIST, she manages and coordinates the flow of events and communications. </p><p>Her recent venture is the <a href="https://scwist.ca/from-dream-to-reality-creating-the-scwist-science-symposium/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">SCWIST Science Symposium</a> (A national competition for young women scientists), which she conceptualized and organized. This <a href="https://scwist.ca/forms/young-scientists-on-board/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">mini-symposium</a> projected SCWIST in 10 out 13 provinces of Canada (88 abstracts from 38 out of 91 participating universities/institutes across Canada; sponsorships sought ($29.5 k): Northeastern University, adMare Bioinnovations, AbCellera, Microsoft, Acuitas Therapeutics, Kruger Inc., Sixsense Strategy group, MOLLI Surgical, and SOPHOS). </p><p>As an executive director of public affairs and infrastructure committee member of GIANT, she works together with WHO/UN in collaboration with over <a href="https://www.giant-int.org/countries/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">40 countries</a> globally to bring awareness about immunization / vaccines. </p><p>She also volunteers as a human rights activist (Amnesty International, IRC (International rescue committee), and IYC-UN, and fundraiser (SOS Children’s Village). She is also a cartoonist (S<a href="https://www.scientudio.biz/kidslab" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">cience Myths Playing Deck</a>: Concept and artwork) and science illustrator.</p>
