Description

The National Ski Academy is thrilled to announce a special event on Saturday, October 28th - Breakfast with Nancy Greene Raine will be held at 200 Oak Street for our student athletes, their families and members of the Collingwood ski community. Tickets are free to current NSA students and staff, guests are encouraged to make a minimum donation of $25 per person, the proceeds of which will be divided equally between the National Ski Academy Bursary Fund and a charity of Nancy's choice. Donations over $50 will receive a tax receipt for the total qualified amount.

After you have made your donation, please RSVP info@nsa.on.ca to let us know how many will be attending.

Nicknamed "Tiger" because of her 'go for it' attitude and her aggressive style of skiing, Nancy won the Canadian ski championship nine times and the United States championship three times. In 1967, Greene broke the European domination of the sport, winning the World Cup. That year she won seven of 16 events, taking the over-all title with four giant slalom victories plus two in slalom and one in downhill. Her accomplishment earned her Canadian "Athlete of the Year" honours.

In 1968 she won the World Cup title again plus, at that year's Winter Olympic Games in Grenoble, France, she captured a gold medal in the giant slalom, by one of the largest margins in Olympic history, and a silver medal in the slalom. For the second time, she was named Canada's "Athlete of the Year."

In 1999, her name was engraved in Canada's Walk of Fame and she was voted Canada's female athlete of the century in a survey of newspaper editors and broadcasters conducted by The Canadian Press and Broadcast News.

Nancy's presentation may be directed at our young aspiring ski racers but we know that everyone involved in the sport whether as a parent, coach or volunteer will be inspired by her message. After the presentation in the gym join us in the dining room for coffee, tea and a continental breakfast hosted by the NSA's Parent Advisory Council.
