Breathing with the Trees is a concert  that uses beautiful music to celebrate trees and climate action on Arbor Day weekend.

St. Stephen's Episcopal Church

Ken Workman of the Duwamish Tribe will kick off the concert with a few words about the impact of climate change on our Native American communities. Headlining the concert is award-winning composer Nelda Swiggett with a presentation of her composition “The Alaska Suite" for jazz quintet. Her performance engages by using the power of artistic expression — live music, spoken words, images and poetry — to connect audiences emotionally to the scientific realities of climate change. Also on the program is Holy Names Vocal Ensemble, conducted by Jean Marie Kent, a pillar in Seattle pillar who builds community around music. Among the pieces the choir will perform are “Grow Little Tree” by Andrea Ramsey. “Grow little tree. Stretch your arms and spread your leaves. What will you be?” Kicking off the program is The Tree People, a trio led by Stephen Cohen, an award-winning songwriter and artist, with selections that highlight the importance of trees in combating climate change. The title song for this program is “Breathing With The Trees,” which celebrates trees and highlights their ability to help combat climate change: “Trees: help us live help us breathe. Breathing with the trees…”
