Bridging Poverty & Privilege

Bedford House is a local Peterbough organization that aims to change the conversation around issues related to poverty & privilege.Bedford Househosts bridging teams which bring together people from various socio-economic backgrounds to study and address the hidden rules of class that divide them. These teams create safe spaces for sharing food, fun, and storytelling, leading to deep, soulful conversations and the formation of strong bonds of trust and friendship. The focus is on economic classes, but other divides such as race, gender, physical ability, and neuro-diversity are also addressed.

The Mount Community Centre, Gathering Room

Bedford House invites you to Bridging Poverty &amp; Privilege - a full-day workshop to challenge what you think you know about community and belonging across class lines.Location: The Mount Community Centre, Gathering Room. A light lunch will be provided.This workshop is PWYC, as we believe in accessible learning opportunities for all. For those willing and able to pay, donations will be accepted at the door. Suggested value of the workshop is $40-75.You'll hear lessons from our 7 years of creating courageous spaces where community and belonging emerge from Food, Fun, Storytelling and Learning together.Are you concerned that the gap between resourced and under-resourced folks is widening? Education on poverty and community building across class lines is a great place to start.We'll learn:<ul><li>The hidden class rules we all live with and how they influence the way we relate to others</li><li>The resources we all need for a stable life</li><li>Lessons in the practice of Dignity, Hospitality and Curiosity</li></ul>This workshop is for you if you:<ul><li>Are new to Bedford House and want to learn more about the work that we do</li><li>Attended a workshop with us before and want to refresh your understanding of some of our key learnings in this work</li><li>Enjoy learning in community, alongside others in a supported environment</li><li>Know that change is needed; see the growing disparities our community faces and want ideas of how to help in ways that maintain dignity for all</li><li>Enjoy connecting and learning over a shared meal *light lunch provided!*</li></ul>
