National Jazz Award winners for &quot;electric jazz group of the year&quot;, 3x Toronto Independent Music Award winners for &quot;jazz group of the year&quot; &amp; called &quot;the new standard in electric jazz&quot; by National Public Radio (NPR), NY -- BROWNMAN ELECTRYC TRIO bring their &quot;collision of Black American Music forms with modern jazz improvising&quot; to Toronto&#x27;s Supermarket, rinsing selections from their chart-topping recordings &quot;Juggernaut&quot; and &quot;Gravitation&quot;, as well as test-driving some new material for an upcoming release. “The trio folds aspects of Black American Music into a chordless jazz framework”, states Brownman -- a Brooklyn, New York schooled protege to jazz trumpet legend RANDY BRECKER, heralded as &quot;Canada&#x27;s preeminent jazz trumpet player&quot; by the New York Village Voice . “When we’re not playing originals&quot;, continues Brownman, &quot;we often take classic standards from the 30s through the 50s and re-imagine them as if they were written today and being produced by, say, DJ Premier. The end result is something that hopefully sounds relevant in today’s musical paradigm, but still resonates with the history and lineage of the jazz tradition. You’ll hear a lot of MILES DAVIS’ influence in that resulting sound and 90&#x27;s hip-hop grooves reflective of my years in GURU&#x27;s JAZZMATAZZ”. [ Brownman replaced Donald Byrd in the iconic jazz-hip-hop group Guru&#x27;s Jazzmatazz in 2006, appearing on &quot;Jazzmatazz Vol. 4&quot; and doing 4 world tours with them until Guru&#x27;s untimely death in 2010 due to cancer ].
