Calligraphy in Edmonton:The Edmonton Calligraphic Society is a non profit volunteer/member arts group operating in the City of Edmonton and adjacent areas to introduce and promote calligraphy (beautiful writing) as an Art form.The mission of the group is to provide opportunities for ECS members and others to develop and refine lettering skills and their application to other arts...bookmaking, journaling, mixed media and fabric arts.Our tradition is to provide workshops (cost recovery) that often span several days or are continuous weekly classes. This provides the opportunity for the development of muscle memory when learning a new skill, individualized instruction/feedback and mentoring by experienced calligraphers.

Learn from an amazing brush lettering artist how to easily create brush letters which are so popular.

The Artelier

Building on a basic italic alphabet, we will begin to make letters with walnut ink (provided) and a #4 brush to complete a small alphabet project. Switching to a water brush, we will learn a flourished version of our letters and begin to work in colour to complete some small projects.Supplies:#4 DaVinci brush (green handle)Water brush (fine or medium) Pentel, Koi, and many other brands.pencilT squareeraserwater containerpaper towelsAll paper will be provided for your work, practice and projects in class. If you have some paper that you would like to use, feel free to bring it along.
