Have you ever wanted to become a certified Field Assistant to monitor creeks in the Kootenay Lake watershed? Now is your chance!
About this event
As part of our Kootenay Lake Watershed Monitoring Project, we are offering free training in the nationally standardized Canadian Aquatic Biomonitoring Inventory Network (CABIN) water quality monitoring protocol. If you participate in this 2-day workshop, you will receive your CABIN Field Assistant certification and will be reimbursed for the online modules to upgrade to Field Technician.
After receiving your Field Assistant certification, you can then sign up to help monitor one of ten creeks included in our monitoring project, gaining real-world experience.
Oh also, did we mention this training is FREE?
This free training opportunity is available to all Kootenay residents over the age of 19. However, preference will be given to persons representing First Nations, environmental non-profit organizations or societies, stewardship groups, or environmental professionals. Preference will also be given to those living within the Kootenay Lake Basin with a demonstrated vested interest in stewarding freshwater resources (e.g., a concerned landowner with a water intake in a local creek).

When: July 14 and 15, 2022 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM
Where: Meeting at Lakeside Park in Nelson, BC. We will then drive to selected sites for the workshop. You must have your own vehicle to drive to the demonstration sites.
Cost: FREE ($250 – $500 value)
Instructors: Certified CABIN trainers and instructors from Selkirk College's School of Environment and Geomatics, Allison Lutz & Doris Hausleitner
