Canada Jay Math Contest

Canada Jay Math Contest

Overview

Write the Canada Jay right here in Waterloo! Thursday, Nov 19, for students in Grade 8 or below. Only 10 seats available.

The Canada Jay is the Canadian Mathematical Society's fall contest for younger students, and a great first taste of contest math. We're hosting it at Eastbridge Academy for our own Grade 7 & 8 class, and we have a few seats left over, so we're opening them up to any student in Grade 8 or below.

  • 15 multiple-choice questions in 90 minutes, in three blocks of five that get harder as you go
  • The questions are based on the Grade 5 to 8 curriculum, and students from Kindergarten to Grade 8 can write it
  • Written with a CMS-approved proctor on site, so it's an official sitting: your paper is marked by the CMS, and your certificate carries the name of your own school

How to register
1) Pick up a ticket here by 6 PM on Wednesday, November 11. Answer sheets are printed per student, so the CMS needs our final list the next day and we can't add anyone after that.
2) Tell us the student's name, grade and school at checkout.
3) That's it! We add you to our list for the CMS, and we'll see you on the day.

Everyone who writes with us is also invited to the take-up in our Grade 7 & 8 Math class the following Monday, November 23, 5:00-6:00 PM, where we go through the problems and solutions together. It's free, and you don't need to be enrolled.

Preparing for contests like this one is a big part of what we do at Eastbridge Academy. Our Grade 7 & 8 Math class meets every week to work through contest-level problems, with a full year of contests and leagues along the way. If you enjoy the Canada Jay, come to the take-up and we'd be happy to tell you more.
