We must collaborate to position Canada in rapidly forming low- carbon value chains.

The rise of green industrial policies across the world has made it imperative that Canada also develop its own low-carbon industrial strategy, or risk being left behind with considerable consequences for our future prosperity. Our major trading partners are moving fast and the global value chains of the 21st century are forming rapidly. Done well, a modern industrial policy can reduce the costs of new technologies, build a coalition to enact change, and enhance society’s decarbonization capacity.

It provides the basis of a strategic approach that can drive industrial transition in key sectors, build critical supply chains, and tackle the cross-cutting challenges that will emerge in the energy transition. In adopting an industrial strategy, Canada can build on the efforts of government and industry to seize economic opportunities in the energy transition. Working together, public and private actors can create the strategic focus and alignment needed to rapidly transition the Canadian economy.

At the Summit we will:

  • Identify the priority actions, critical policies, and investments needed to implement a more strategic approach to industrial transition.
  • Reimagine Canadian industrial strategy with new ideas that distill lessons from international case studies and past efforts in Canada.
  • Be inspired by work in key sectors of the economy and highlight the cross-cutting issues that require immediate action: building the clean grid, green transportation corridors, and critical minerals supply chains.
  • Create the foundation for new public-private partnerships to catalyze action and mobilize capital.
