Join PABC and renowned instructor Simone Gruenig to explore the fascinating, complex world of cardiorespiratory physiotherapy in these two complimentary courses: Review of the Basics and Foundations (Oct 19) & Case Integration into Practice (Oct 20).

<h1>Course Description:</h1> The Case Integration course is designed for physiotherapists (PT) AND respiratory therapists (RT) seeking to enhance their clinical reasoning and decision-making skills in the field of collaborative cardiorespiratory practice. The course focuses on the integration of theoretical knowledge into practical case-based scenarios, focusing on how both physiotherapists and respiratory therapists can collaborate together to enhance patient outcomes. This unique course which focuses on both PT and RT scope of practice will deepen participants' understanding of complex cardiorespiratory evidence-based knowledge. The delivery method is through interactive and collaborative case-based scenarios/discussions, with presentations on review of the literature, where appropriate.Upon completion of this course, participants will:1. Analyze complex cardiorespiratory cases to identify key clinical issues and prioritize intervention strategies, with collaborative dialogue between PT’s and RT’s.2. Integrate theoretical knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology into practical decision-making for individualized patient care.3. Enhance critical thinking skills to assess and interpret diagnostic data, including pulmonary function tests, arterial blood gases, and imaging studies.4. Apply evidence-based principles to formulate comprehensive treatment plans for patients with diverse cardiorespiratory conditions, including deepening an understanding of both the PT and RT scope of practice.5. Enhance communication skills for effective collaboration with interdisciplinary teams in the management of complex cases, focusing on PT/RT roles.6. Evaluate and adjust treatment plans based on ongoing patient assessment and feedback, including how to collaborate effectively within the PT/RT roles.7. Discuss ethical considerations and challenges in the management of complex cardiorespiratory cases. <h2>The Instructors:</h2> Simone Gruenig completed her Bachelor of Science at the University of Ottawa in 2000, her Master of Science in Physical Therapy and her Master of Science (research) at the University of Toronto in 2004. She has completed post-graduate work in cardiorespiratory therapy, seniors care, community therapy, trauma-informed care, and Indigenous cultural humility.Over the last eighteen years, her clinical focus has varied from critical/acute care, chronic pain/palliative care, community care and pelvic floor therapy. Since 2007 she has been working part-time for Vancouver Coastal Health and since 2015 she has been working with an outreach community health team, servicing the diverse needs of the downtown east side of Vancouver. Also, since 2007, she has held a part-time instructor position in the Department of Physical Therapy at the University of British Columbia primarily instructing clinical cardiorespiratory therapy, physiology and complex patient populations. Her post-graduate teaching has focused on the evidence-based standards with the cardiorespiratory patient population, the use of outcome measures in acute care and how to build and foster your clinical reasoning skills. She received an award of excellence in teaching in 2015.She is part of numerous committees within her profession, including, but not limited to the Cardiorespiratory Division, of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association, The International Cardiorespiratory Committee, of the World Physiotherapy Association, the Public Practice Advisory Committee of the Physical Therapy Association of British Columbia and the Initiatives for Indigenous Advocacy Committee, University of British Columbia. Bryanne-Leigh Brosseuk graduated from Thompson Rivers University in 2015 with a Diploma in Respiratory Therapy and is currently completing her Bachelor's in Health Science at Thompson Rivers University. She is also pursuing certification as a Certified Respiratory Educator.Since graduating, Bryanne-Leigh has primarily worked at Royal Columbian Hospital, where she began her career as a bedside therapist. She later advanced to the role of Clinical Student Coordinator, playing a pivotal role in shaping the education of Clinical Respiratory Therapy students by overseeing the creation, implementation, and facilitation of their learning during their critical clinical year.In her current position as Clinical Resource Educator for Respiratory Therapists at Royal Columbian Hospital, Bryanne-Leigh provides essential support and guidance to her colleagues. She also chairs the Respiratory Therapy Critical Care Shared Work Team and the Airway Shared Work Team, both of which are regional initiatives focused on advancing clinical practices. Additionally, she serves as the Director of Education for the BC Society of Respiratory Therapy (BCSRT).Beyond her work at Royal Columbian, Bryanne-Leigh has expanded her expertise by working as a locum Respiratory Therapist in Yellowknife and supporting Home Oxygen in the community. Her passion for respiratory therapy, combined with her dedication to innovative and effective teaching methods, continues to drive her approach to education and practice.
