Caribbean Rhythms Dance Workshop

The Art Museum at the University of Toronto is a dynamic interdisciplinary arts hub that offers new encounters with diverse artistic and cultural perspectives.The Art Museum comprises the Justina M. Barnicke Gallery (Hart House) and the University of Toronto Art Centre (University College). Located just a few steps apart, the two galleries were federated in 2014 and began operating under a new visual identity as the Art Museum at the University of Toronto, one of the largest gallery spaces for visual art exhibitions and programming in Toronto.Building on the two galleries’ distinguished histories, the Art Museum organizes and presents an intensive year-round program of exhibitions and events that foster — at a local, regional, and international level — innovative research, interdisciplinary scholarship, and knowledge of art and its histories befitting Canada’s leading university and the country’s largest city.

Prepare for Carnival through an artist-led dance instruction!

Move, sweat, and explore Caribbean rhythms in this all-ages dance workshop led by artist and educator Stephanie Cole and musician collaborators.This event is part of <a href="https://artmuseum.utoronto.ca/program/carnival-blues/" title="https://artmuseum.utoronto.ca/program/carnival-blues/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Carnival Blues</a>, a celebration of Caribbean Carnival through art, movement, and community. Presented in conjunction with the exhibition <a href="https://artmuseum.utoronto.ca/exhibition/land-sea-sugar-salt/" title="https://artmuseum.utoronto.ca/exhibition/land-sea-sugar-salt/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Land. Sea. Sugar. Salt.: Terrestrial and Aquatic Contemplations of the Caribbean</a> on view at the Art Museum through August 1, 2026.—Please note: Personal belongings, including bags and personal equipment, are not permitted in any Fitness Centre spaces. Locker rooms are available for member use, and locks can be purchased at the Fitness Information Desk if required. Attendees are welcome to leave their belongings at the Justina M. Barnicke Gallery front desk, located above the Fitness Centre.Food and beverages are also not permitted in any Fitness Centre spaces. Participants may only bring in water bottles and light sport jackets. Refreshments are available for purchase from <a href="https://harthouse.ca/arbor-room" title="https://harthouse.ca/arbor-room" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">The Arbor Room</a> in Hart House.—Stephanie Cole is an educator, entrepreneur, advocate, mas maker, and dancer. She leads a kiddies section in Carnival Nationz Carnival band, is an award winning entrepreneur and founder of Safepod, a safe and inclusive workplace consulting enterprise and is a dancer and leader of Soca Fit and Caribbean dance in B.C. Since the age of three she has been a competitive dancer with a focus on tap and hip hop and a Disney dance performer.
