About Your Instructor
Firuze Avci (@theclaybenders)
Firuze Avci is a Turkish ceramic artist based in Calgary, Alberta. A Sociology graduate and self-taught ceramicist, she creates work inspired by themes of feminism, immigration, empathy, identity, and belonging.
Her sculptures and functional ceramics challenge traditional gender norms while celebrating the beauty, strength, and complexity of the female experience. Through clay, Firuze invites others to embrace creativity as a tool for self-expression, connection, and empowerment.
