<h2>Celebrate Science Literacy Week by building your own game in Scratch!</h2><p>Join <a href="http://kcj.org" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Kids Code Jeunesse</a> and kids from across Canada for a free online coding workshop to celebrate Science Literacy Week 2021. Celebrating the Canadian book, <a href="https://www.scholastic.ca/books/view/nibis-water-song" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"><em>Nibi’s Water Song</em></a> by Sunshine Tenasco, kids will code a narrative game that explores the universal need for clean drinking water and how individuals can make a difference in the fight against climate change. The project will use foundational <a href="https://scratch.mit.edu" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Scratch</a> coding skills as a tool to celebrate themes like perseverance, community, and the beauty of protecting Canada’s natural environments. </p><h3>Who is this workshop for?</h3><p>Canadian kids aged 8 - 12 who are curious about coding, literature and our climate! Beginner-friendly with no previous coding experience required.</p><h3>What materials do I need to take part?</h3><ul><li>A stable connection to the internet</li><li>A laptop, chromebook or computer (no tablets/ipads)</li><li>A webcam is recommended but not required</li></ul><h3>About Science Literacy Week </h3><p><a href="http://www.scienceliteracy.ca/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Science Literacy Week</a> showcases the many ways kids and families can explore and enjoy the diversity of Canadian science. Libraries, museums, science centres, schools and not-for-profits come together to highlight the books, movies, podcasts and events that share exciting stories of the science, discoveries and ingenuity shaping our lives.
