Comics Workshop: Concept to Comic

Comics Workshop: Concept to Comic’s goal is to challenge barriers surrounding comics, explore how diverse the artform is, and celebrate its rich history. Inspired by a workshop conducted at the Esker Foundation in April 2025, Daniele will share with attendees how to balance visuals and storytelling by creating their own scripts and worlds. All skill levels are welcome, but the writing section is a beginner-level activity.

Workshops are recommended for people ages 16 and over. Children under 16 years old are welcome with parent/guardian supervision. Please get a ticket for each person (incl. all children).

The workshop is admission by donation! Suggested $20 - $30 to support facilitator fees and supplies.

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR:

Daniele Pieroni is a published writer and editor based in Calgary, Alberta. He is the editor and co-writer of the “AKLAS” anthology Issues #1-3, a cyberpunk deconstruction of an alternate Filipino future.

With a background writing for independent comics, blogs, and sustainability-led businesses, Daniele focuses on the connections that bind civil society and art.

Alcove Centre for the Arts (alcoveartscentre.ca) is a charity based in Calgary, AB which aims to make art more accessible and promote a vibrant local arts industry. Alcove Beltline (1040 8 St SW) is a multi-use, flexible venue that is available to book for private or public events. If you are looking for an affordable space that has equipment rentals available, in a central location, for 75-100 people at a time, then this space may be a great fit for you!
