Impact Organizations of Nova Scotiawas founded in December 2012 (as The Community Sector Council of Nova Scotia) to act as voice for the nonprofit and voluntary sector, and to help build skills and capacity to help organizations be as effective as possible in their work.A core part of our work is to provide capacity building opportunities to help organizations better achieve their mission through access to high quality training, resources, and skill development. The root of our capacity building efforts is the vision of the Community Impact Sector equipped to affect positive change and address systemic inequities. Our theory is that the sector will be most impactful when organizations develop the capacity and build skills to nurture healthy workplaces, cultivate innovation, and operate sustainably.

IONS is hitting the road! Join us for an engaging ideation session around transforming the Community Impact (Nonprofit) Sector.

<aside>Over the past two years, impact organizations have stepped up to fill gaps in critical service provision and supports for our most vulnerable citizens. Programs and services moved online, people delivered food, help set up emergency response shelters, created social connections, and so much more. These efforts have taken a toll – the pandemic pushed longstanding systemic issues within our sector to the brink, and people are on the edge of burnout.</aside><aside>Last fall, the Executive Director of Impact Organizations of Nova Scotia (IONS), Annika Voltan, and Sandra McKenzie, Co-founder of The Forge Institute, co-authored a series of short articles to stimulate discussion around sector transformation. They covered the topics of <a href="https://ions.ca/we-need-a-healthy-community-impact-sector-heres-why-you-should-care/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">why this sector exists and why people should care</a>, <a href="https://ions.ca/overworked-and-undervalued-sustaining-the-community-impact-workforce/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">workforce issues</a>, <a href="https://ions.ca/unraveling-an-unsustainable-funding-model/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">funding challenges </a>and <a href="https://ions.ca/structuring-for-impact/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">governance and structure</a>. Over the winter, several virtual sessions were held with sector leaders, policy makers, and members of the business and academic community to start to generate ideas for change. </aside><aside>This spring, IONS will be hosting a series of regional community conversations to go deeper in this topic of sector transformation and to hear directly from those working on the ground. What are the structures and models that could lead to thriving organizations and greater impact?</aside><aside>Each interactive, in-person session will be 2.5 hours. The focus of our time together will be on generating ideas for transforming the Community Impact Sector , but will allow time for learning more about IONS work these past few years, 2022 research findings, and networking and collaborating with peers. </aside><aside>We hope you will join us for the session closest to where you live! Once you are registered, additional information will be shared about the venue, timing, COVID-19 protocols, and suggestions for advance reading/listening. </aside>
