Addressing the fracture between research practice and public access to academic knowledge, Jess Ross pointedly tackles the digital barriers of online socializing, a new “ordinary” for many in the current pandemic era. Opening with a grounding exercise meant to inspire thinking about how we socialize uniquely when we visit online spaces from our homes and cameras, Ross’ project unfolds in the form of a cooking class. In this 60 minute event, conversation will be facilitated about virtual learning, whilst working through a pie crust recipe.“This is about how community space can be created in a virtual realm. Virtual geographies are unprecedented zones for being together and learning together. Can we make and feel community through a communal practice of making pie dough from our own homes? Why is that important?”This baking space will be accessible to those interested in participating in preparing a pie crust and to those who would like to watch and listen.Registration on Eventbrite is necessary to receive the zoom link for this event.
