CONNECT 2025

CITT/ICTS Ontario Section is the regional organization that represents members of CITT/ICTS who are living and working within the geographic boundary of Ontario.We endeavour to provide to our members programming designed to be educational, informative and collegial. We provide a conduit for those involved in technical theatre in Ontario to receive information and provide feedback to organizations such as The Advisory Committee for Live Performance to the Ontario Ministry of Labour, and Theatre Ontario.

Come see the inner workings of the Stratford Festival’s Tom Patterson Theatre and learn from their department heads! This opportunity includes a venue tour, breakout sessions, and leisure time in Stratford. This session will be available in-person only. Lunch will not be provided. There is an additional fee  for this tour to ensure attendance. Fee includes Round Trip transportation between the Modern Languages Building on the University of Waterloo  and the Tom Patterson Theatre.

Livestreaming events has taken the industry by storm! Join this panel discussion to hear  about the challenges we still face and share your own experiences in converting live events into a digital format. This is a roundtable discussion, so participants of all experience levels are welcome!

Lessons in Livestream

Members of the Wardrobe Department at the Stratford Festival will talk about the many and varied aspects of working in one of the largest wardrobe departments in the country. Learn about theatrical footwear and period clothing and what it takes to get these items from design sketches to the stage. Learn how to set up and execute a quick change and then have a chance to try the change. Perhaps there will even be a friendly quick change competition! Intro to Backstage Wardrobe

This Introduction to integrating video into QLab 5 will go over the basics, including a rundown of basic functions, the basics of geometry for video, warping, mapping and blending video clips into a show file and how to connect using different video inputs. This course is perfect for those looking to expand their QLlab skills!

Intro to QLab Video

QLab is the go-to playback software behind most professional theatrical sound designs - this course will teach you the basics to get you up and running: setup, preferences, keyboard shortcuts, dragging in content, manipulating content, creating cue stacks, and making sonic elements move around a space. This course is suitable for anyone just starting out in QLab, those wanting to strengthen their confidence with QLab, or for anyone wanting to ask questions about QLab Audio.

ETC is often the choice for professional theatre lighting playback and has a variety of features that support programmers, Starting from set up to building a show. we'll go through how you can use the EOS family consoles to better serve your needs and venue. This is open to anyone starting out with programming on EOS consoles or those that want to formalize their knowledge and gain more experience in console programming.

Looking to expand your skills in programming? This course will provide an introduction to using Qlab as your show control computer, including controlling network devices and other consoles from Qlab, what is timecode/midi, and more! Other aspects of show control may be touched on based on participant interests and skill levels.

Show Control

The Open Broadcast System (OBS) is a free and open source software for video recording and livestreaming. It can be used to create scenes made up of multiple sources including window captures, images, text, browser windows, webcams, capture cards and more. This session will teach you the basics of how to use OBS in livestreamed events, including theatre, conferences and other hybrid events. This session will include an opportunity for Q/A.

Intro to OBS

The Business of Freelancing provides a holistic overview of how to start and maintain a business practice for freelance arts workers, specifically for Production Managers and Technical Directors. Topics of discussion will include types of work engagements; reviewing potential insurance and tax options for small businesses; discussing how to get work, build a client base, and network; as well as looking at various professional accreditations, organizations, conferences, and resources for production professionals and their businesses

This course will provide an  introduction to the basics of automation elements, basic programming concepts, and discussion about automation and it's uses in theatre. This course is open to all experience and skill levels!

Intro to Automation

In this course, participants will go through opening and setting up a magic sheet on your console to interact with. EOS Magic sheets are a powerful tool that can be completely customizable for venues or users. This course is recommended for anyone with at least novice skills on the console. If you have never worked on ETC Eos before, We recommend starting with the Intro to EOS before attending this course.
