Join the Ontario Chamber of Commerce from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 23rd for a one-hour webinar discussion on Cross-Border Transportation during COVID-19. This conversation about this critical trading relationship and integral component of our economic supply chain will be moderated by Mark Fisher President and CEO of the Council of the Great Lakes Region. We are delighted to have as panelists: Tejal N. Shah, Chief of Political and Economic Affairs, U.S. Consulate General Toronto; Rakesh Naidu, President & CEO of the Windsor-Essex Regional Chamber of Commerce and John Tory, Director of Business Development, Air Canada.

Moderator:

Mark Fisher, President and CEO of the Council of the Great Lakes Region (CGLR)

Mark Fisher became the President and CEO of the Council of the Great Lakes Region (CGLR) in 2014.

Prior to joining CGLR, he served as a foreign policy advisor in the Privy Council Office, which supports the Prime Minister of Canada and the federal Cabinet, where he focused on advancing Canada’s interests in North America and the Asia-Pacific region.

Mark has extensive experience advising senior decision-makers on a range of socioeconomic and environmental issues facing government, business, and the non-profit sector.

In addition to CGLR, he is an elected school board trustee with the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board, is a member of the International Joint Commission’s Great Lakes Water Quality Board, and is a director on the board of Easter Seals Ontario.

Tejal N. Shah, Chief of Political and Economic Affairs, U.S. Consulate General Toronto

Tejal N. Shah is the Political-Economic Chief at the Consulate General in Toronto. As an economic-coned officer with the State Department, she has over 16 years of experience working on the Middle East, South Asia, Southeast Asia, and international organizations. Previously, Tejal served in Washington as a Program Officer for Refugee Admissions to the United States from Europe and the Middle East; an advisor to the U.S. Overseas Private Investment Corporation; a Special Assistant to the State Department’s Under Secretary for Economic Growth, Energy, and Environment supporting the G7 and Middle East economic engagement; the Senior Egypt Desk Officer; a Legislative Fellow to former Colorado Senator Udall; and an energy officer for the International Energy Agency and Asia region. She has served overseas in Bangkok (consular and cultural affairs officer) and New Delhi (economic officer).

Tejal holds an MA in International Relations and Development and Transition Economics from the Johns Hopkins University. She is proficient in Indonesian, Thai, Spanish, Hindi, and Gujarati languages. A native of Dallas-Fort Worth, her parents and siblings reside in the north Texas area.

Rakesh Naidu, President & CEO of the Windsor-Essex Regional Chamber of Commerce

Rakesh has over 2 decades of working in Private and Not-for-Profit enterprises. He has significant experience in supporting startups, business expansions and business attraction activities. He is a volunteer teacher at Art of Living Foundation and sits of several Boards and Committees in the Windsor-Essex Region

In his role as CEO of The Chamber of Commerce, Rakesh oversees the activities of Regional Chamber of Commerce. He works closely with the leaders in the industry and different sector heads to identify and maximize the potential in each sector. He coordinates activities with all other Windsor Essex area government departments, municipal economic development personnel and key stake holders to ensure the broad level of support for new and existing companies.

Rakesh is a Chemical Engineer with a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management. In the past he has worked in Environmental Engineering, Automotive and Management Consultancy firms. Bulk of his career has been in the Automotive Industry (OEM and Tier-1).

John Tory, Director of Business Development, Air Canada

John joined Air Canada as the Director, Business Development in 2019 following his role in Business Development within Air Canada Express. In Business Development, John is responsible for new client identification and acquisition and for managing the Business Development team’s event presence.

Prior to Air Canada, John was President & CEO of Private Air Inc., the aircraft management and charter division of Levaero, the Canadian Dealer for Pilatus aircraft. John has an Airline Transport Pilots License and has a passion for the airline industry. John received his MBA from University of Toronto and has also worked in the merchant banking sector.

John is active in the community through his committee involvement with the Wanderluxe Gala and the RBC Innovator’s Ball, as well as his work with Jake’s House, a charity supporting children and families affected by Autism.
