Data Centre Open House
Overview

Free community information session hosted in collaboration with the Western Canada Data Centre Alliance.

Data centres are a growing part of modern infrastructure, supporting everyday services like online banking, healthcare systems, cloud computing, and digital communications. Yet for many people, what data centres actually are, how they operate, and what they mean for communities can feel unclear.

To support community understanding, Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo Economic Development & Tourism (FMWBEDT), in partnership with the Western Canada Data Center Alliance (WCDCA), is hosting a Data Centre Community Open House.

This free, educational session is designed to provide residents, youth, community leaders, and local stakeholders with a clear, practical understanding of modern data centres. Attendees will have the opportunity to see real demo equipment up close, hear from industry experts, and ask questions in a neutral, information-focused setting.

Topics will include:

  • What data centres are and how they operate
  • What data centre infrastructure looks like in practice
  • Why the sector is growing in Alberta
  • Common questions around water use, power, noise, and design
  • Workforce pathways and future-oriented career opportunities

This event is not tied to any specific project. No proposals are being presented or approved. The focus is on learning and informed dialogue, helping the community build understanding before any future discussions or decisions may arise.

Registration is free, but space is limited. Register today!
