Data Science 101 Series: Communicate Better with Data Visualization

Founded in 2008, WiSER (Women in Science, Engineering & Research) is a sub-community of WISEST at the University of Alberta aimed at serving the needs of graduate students and early-career professionals. The community is comprised of individuals in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) from the academia, government, and industry.WISER supports the retention and advancement of women and under-represented groups in STEM careers by providing opportunities for networking, mentoring, information exchange, and professional development. To this end, WISER encourages participation of everyone in order to promote the awareness of gender diversity and inclusion.

<p><em><strong>Note:  Tickets are refundable upon attending and completing the workshop.</strong></em></p><p>Do you want to learn how to create engaging data dashboards? To craft beautiful visualizations that tell compelling stories? To learn how you can quickly massage some data and visualize the results?</p><p>WiSER is hosting another session as part of their Data Science 101 Series in partnership with <a href="https://www.darkhorseanalytics.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Darkhorse Analytics</a>. This will be a 2-hour session with an introduction to Data Visualization and a focus on PowerBI. This series is introductory and attendees do not require background or prior experience in the Data Science field.</p><p>Using tools like PowerBI, this workshop will walk you through a typical data visualization project from start to finish. <h2>Nancy Ho</h2><p>Senior Analyst</p><p>Nancy is an analyst and data enthusiast. She's worked at Darkhorse Analytics for nearly a decade helping clients understand and apply their data to their daily operations.  This includes developing BI tools and data visualizations to help drive strategy. When not digging for stories and navigating complex problems, she enjoys gardening and bike adventures.</p>

<h2>Olivia Sekulic</h2><p>Data Analyst, Darkhorse Analytics</p><p>Olivia is an analyst with a passion for transforming complex data into insightful information. She is driven by the challenge of problem solving and exploring new techniques of modelling and visualizing data. Her background in Operations Management developed her interest in simulation, modelling and statistical analysis. Outside of her work, another passion of hers is hiking in the Rocky Mountains - so she is always striving to reach new heights, one step at a time.</p>
