This year the DSU would like to invite you to our annual Dawson PEACE conference happening Tuesday, March 28th, 2017 in Conrods 2F.4 
The day will include a series of amazing speakers! This event is open to the Dawson College community. Please take a look at our list of speakers, as we encourage you to please reserve seats for your class to ensure an alternative, exciting learning experience for your students!
Please come join us March 28th as we share a message of peace, patience, tolerance and love. We will have tea, we will have coffee, and lots and lots of smiles to share!!
 Please join us in Oliver’s (2C.17) after the presentations for an open discussion. As well as for some sweet refreshments!

10:00 - 10:45 - Daniel Goldsmith – Non-Violence in Every Bite ( Location: Conrods 2F.4 )
 This talk will explore the convergence of spirituality and our food choices. Drawing on eastern and western traditions, Goldsmith will explore the convergence of spirituality and our food choices. questions like, would Jesus eat a factory farmed animal; how can we use meditation and other practices to make more compassionate food decisions and how can we ever really be sure what we're doing is right? Goldsmith will additionally explore the dangers of labels and extremes, by analyzing how they often do more harm than good. Make sure to stick around till the end for some spiritually-informed dessert!

11:00 - 11:45 - Chris Adam – Living Campus – Using Nature as a Restorative Agent ( Location: Conrods 2F.4 )
Experience in the natural environment is endangered, yet research has clearly shown the health benefits of spending time in Nature – reduction of stress, increase in imagination, expression of positive emotions, less violent behavior and even an increase in grades! This presentation will review Dawson’s efforts to engage students and staff in projects that are restorative, for people and wildlife.

TRANNA WINTOUR is an optimistic, spiritual, happy, raunchy, pop-culture-obsessed, fashion-hungry comedienne. She has performed in Just for Laughs, Zoofest, Pride Toronto, and her Montreal Fringe Festival 2015 show, TRANTASY, garnered rave reviews. Upon seeing her one-woman show in New York City, legendary comedienne, Sandra Bernhard, proclaimed: "A star is born!

1:00 - 1:45 – Martina Buchal – Your Power to Change your World ( Location: Conrods 2F.4 )
When we look at our world through the lens of the news and media, it can sometimes seem grim. War and injustice plague our planet - not to mention the environmental concerns. This is why the United Nations has developed the Sustainable Development Goals as a guide for global citizens and institutions to aim toward. Martina is a strong believer that anyone can be a positive change maker working to make these goals a reality. In this session, she shares her personal journey and words of wisdom to show that you too can change the world for the better. 
 Martina Buchal is an internationally recognized speaker, coach, and consultant, recently selected as Real Leaders Magazine's #34 most Visionary Leader. The focus of her work is enabling others to use the #StartWithin approach, which recognizes that we all have the power and capacity to actively change our lives, and our individual as well as collective future, by starting within.

2:00 - 2:45 - Jennifer King–  #Waiting4UCanada: Equity for First Nations Children, Reconciliation, and Meaningful Change ( Location: Conrods 2F.4 )
First Nations children living on reserve receive fewer dollars for education, child welfare supports, mental health and other services than non-Aboriginal children in Canada. As the federal government prepares to spend half a billion dollars to celebrate the country’s 150th birthday, First Nation children continuously endure systemic injustice and discrimination--with tragic results. This presentation will discuss some of the contemporary inequities facing First Nations children, highlight community-based solutions and offer concrete ways for participants to make a difference.

3:00 - 3:45 - Marie Lamensch – Are the Dominoes Falling?  ( Location: Conrods 2F.4 )
As Brexit and the election of Donald Trump have shown, the US and UK have had it with the liberal international order. Voters believe that they are losing against globalization, they feel threatened by immigration and terrorism. This sense of grievance is also going mainstream in Europe. In the West, if not globally, we are seeing a re-emergence of nationalism and isolation. Worryingly, we are seeing an unleashing of xenophobic attacks in North America and Europe.
 The Netherlands and France have crucial elections this year and the front runners are tapping in on people's anger at the establishment. What are we to do against the rise of populism and its politics of illusion? Can we prevent the dominoes from falling?"

5:00 - 6:30 - Inside Peace Movie (Oliver’s 2C.17)
This insightful documentary follows prisoners attending a Peace class at the Dominguez State Jail, Texas, their transformation and their integration back into society afterward. We believe showing this film fits in with your stated goal of promoting activities that “engender healing, understanding, compassion and collaboration.”
