Agenda
The Power of Tactile Connections
In "The Power of Tactile Connections," we trace the journey from reach to touch, exploring how touch is the primary sense for DeafBlind individuals to build worlds and meaningful relationships. Tactile engagement, using specific touch and signals, creates a bridge, becoming a language that maps the environment, signals emotion, and builds trust. As the primary structure of lived experience, touch counters isolation, enabling continuity, identity, and belonging.
Vision Loss Rehabilitation Alberta: Maximizing Function, Enhancing Life
In the presentation session, Erin will provide an overview of Vision Loss Rehabilitation Alberta - the services available, the team that works across Alberta, examples of specialized devices like digital magnifiers that could be the right fit for you, and how to get in touch with VLR to start working on skills you want to learn to do (or do again) with your vision loss.
Storytelling: "Ezra and his Magnificent Cane"
In the storytelling, “Ezra and his Magnificent Cane” is an empowering children’s book about a young boy named Ezra who enjoys a day at the fair, teaching his peers about blindness and navigating the world with his “Magnificent” white cane. The book is part of the Usher Syndrome Series, designed to educate, celebrate disability representation, and provide different ways to experience the world. The book was written by Dr. Jasmine Simmons, who is a DeafBlind author.
